Hmm, bloody weird! How far away from the coast would you estimate? Rough time from when you passed over them to landing. Rough idea of the area of the structures. Are they big enough to berth an oil tanker alongside?
There is a multitude of danger, restricted and prohibited(VTD,VTR,VTP)areas in the gulf applying to aircraft, but none that I can see that would be inline with an approach to the airport. Some areas like that have an upper limit, but not having the relevant document I don't know what the restriction is.

Probably for seafood farming. Crabs, molluscs etc.

The structures were spread over quite a large area (several sq miles?). Because of the tentacles, it would be unlikely anything could berth alongside.
However, it might have been possible to berth between structures.

I don't think we've speculated about the country's undersea internet and communication cables. There is a network of those going east, west and south I believe, and I would think they have multiple connection points between the long undersea cables and the cables coming from on-shore starting/ending points.

I did wonder about that possibility for a while, and they did look like overgrown junction boxes. Whilst it may well be the answer, I discounted it due to the randomness of the islands. However, if you look at the mish mash of cables behind my TV, the islands could have been designed by the same person .PeteC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 1:05 pm I don't think we've speculated about the country's undersea internet and communication cables. I think my beautiful drawing would totally baffle even the experts . Had I taken a photo, then yes, maybe I could have asked. However, I'm sure if I'd taken a photo, the clever guys on here would have known right away. Unfortunately, we were coming in to land, so I didn't want to switch my camera on - it might be very basic, but it's an electronic device all the same.wenshidi wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 1:46 pm You could always try asking over here:

You will not know unless you try.
