Being in Medicine, we were early to adopt new communication methods. I was issued with a beeper in 1963 and had my first Mobile phone, then called Cell phones in 1985. It was so big, no way could you carry it in a pocket.

Tell that to the UK's National Health Service, who've just been told to ditch their antiquated fax machines!oakdale160 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 1:15 am Being in Medicine, we were early to adopt new communication methods.

I remember using one of these brick-sized cell phones when working in and around London c. 1989-90. Being effectively a civil servant at the time, it's quite astonishing that they were only a handful of years behind the times.
This is the way

Regarding fax machines, I wish I had one a couple of weeks ago when trying to transfer a largish amount of £’s from the UK to here. The only method the bank would accept was a fax with my signature.dtaai-maai wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 1:49 amTell that to the UK's National Health Service, who've just been told to ditch their antiquated fax machines!oakdale160 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 1:15 am Being in Medicine, we were early to adopt new communication methods.

Back to topic . Tomorrow’s World was an excellent programme and I wish something like it was on the main BBC channels. Some technology programs are on the world service though.

I remember watching this and thinking it will never catch on.

I had a similar problem with a bank wanting a fax of ID recently and I found a phone app called Easyfax that worked. You photograph the document, crop it to size and they fax it for you for a small fee. It was someone at the bank that told me about it after I commented on the phone that I hadn't seen a fax machine for over ten years.dundrillin wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 12:05 pmRegarding fax machines, I wish I had one a couple of weeks ago when trying to transfer a largish amount of £’s from the UK to here.
