Point №4... $20 per session in a kennel style soiled massage parlour in SRiep VS $30 per session in a clean room in HH (just an example)

BB, when you are talking about it, beng dirty--Are you referring to Sihanoukville or to the whole country? I was not in PP or Sihan and I did not find it particularly dirty.

On the coast, quiet, safe and enough foreigners there to make it interesting and has the best hospital in Cambodia, run by the Swiss and Americans. A significant number of expats who have moved there from Thailand.
Agree, Kampot is a cool little place, very laid back. Did a road trip there a couple of years ago, here are the photos:

I am talking Sihanoukville.
I found it disgusting. Another friend has relocated from Sihanoukville because of the dirt. An annual visitor who visits us and a friend in Sihanoukville can not wait to get to Hua Hin to get clean.
When I was there I remember piles of rubbish on every street corner, with many rats.
It did not make a good impression.
This is a photo from my centrally located hotel, which was representative of much of Sihanoukville.

Looks a bit like the old restaurant area by the temple in the Poonsuk Road!

Actually, I think the temple area in the Poonsuk Road looks quite attractive by comparison

6+ months visa is no longer easy in Cambodia, they've been changing the rules constantly in the last few months and confusing the hell out of everyone. It is still possible to get 3 months over and over again, no questions asked, but no one knows how long that will last.

So it seems the following:
Philippines
Cambodia
Costa Rica
At this time CR would be my No. 1, will have to do some more research, luckily no rush to finalize.

Trash is endemic across Asia so singling out specific countries isn't really fair. I could post similar photos from not too far away from here where local schools are still burning piles of plastic - Thailand is the sixth largest plastic polluter in the world.

How disappointing for the Thais, I'm sure they'll try to be #1.buksida wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 1:39 pm Trash is endemic across Asia so singling out specific countries isn't really fair. Maybe I was unlucky when I visited Sihanoukville, but it was honestly the dirtiest place I had seen on this planet. I agree, Thailand has pockets of such mess, but a friend took me all around Sihanoukville - it was everywhere. Just look at the statistics - how many expats have moved away because of the conditions? From what I've heard, there are very few left.buksida wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 1:39 pm Trash is endemic across Asia so singling out specific countries isn't really fair. I've never seen anything like the photos in BB's post, and certainly wouldn't live, visit or be at a place like that, for any reason, anytime, or even close to it.
Certainly haven't seen in Thailand or anywhere's I've ever been.

Some of the roads towards the back of Soi 102 are pretty bad.

Try Indonesia or the Philippines - there are towns built on plastic waste.
Thailand, with a smaller population, certainly makes its contribution though those that live in glossy tourist resorts are unlikely to see it.
