Like most with two passports. Arrives and leaves Thailand on a Thai passport and enters and leaves the UK on a British passport.
There is no visa involved. When in Thailand the child is Thai and when in the UK, the child is British.

If you need to get a Thai passport for the child you'll need his/her Thai birth certificate and both the Mother present with Thai ID card and passport if she has one, and Father with foreign passport. Both parents need to be present for the initial application. At least that was the procedure a few years back. Pete

There will be no problem registering the birth after the event. My son was 21 years old when we registered him.
You say 'he', so I'm assuming it's a boy. You have to be aware that he will be expected to do the lottery for National Service when he reaches the age. Outside of that, dual nationality does have many advantages.

I've been in and out of the country several times with my kids without their mother and never had a problem. Must have an honest face!
Re: Children travelling - mixed nationality
I flew out in april and last month in october, both times stopped, children 6yo.
Trying to stop parents absconding with child without mums knowledge i would think, my friend from holland stopped both times too.

Re: Children travelling - mixed nationality
It does happen. I was clobbered once at Heathrow travelling with my 5 month old son to Thailand. We had a megga disagreement (they were asking questions they knew they weren't allowed to ask, and knew I wasn't allowed to answer). We reached an impasse, but we were allowed to board anyway, however I was starting to have doubts.
