Believe it or not, I was about to. I heard on the news as we were about to leave Market Village. However, I saw the end of the world (in the form of a gigantic rain cloud) approaching, and Mrs BB had washing out. The command of Mrs BB outranks everything else.

If the rain stops, I'll drive that way later, and post some dashcam footage (if the crossing hasn't shorted out).

Well, I thought about it, and decided what better time to see it than adverse weather conditions.

My verdict................. Fake News, or it shorted out as I suggested. I think this will go down in history alongside the bomb detectors

Give me a while, and I'll upload the video (some good flood shots as well).

OK, having watched the video, I guess it's early news rather than fake news. The cones and trucks with flashing lights are there for a purpose. However,
Apichart said the lamps would be connected to traffic lights at crossings and the lamps would be turned on when pedestrians see the signal to cross the road.
More bad reporting I hope. Another set of lights where the flashing lights are would turn Petchkasem into a virtual car park. If they are going to connect them to the existing lights, the current road works are a red herring. Whatever, I couldn't see anything today. Can you guys? Here's the dash cam footage:

[Edit] There were certainly no signs visible that a new kind of pedestrian crossing (1st time in Thailand) was in use.

Maybe not enough tourists nearby to entice into the target zone.

I've just read that it was premature news. It should have been commissioned overnight, but heavy rain cancelled it :?

So reports were not based on facts :?

It should now go live this evening.

[Edit] Looks as though it's going near the bottom of the Night Market, so the bit about connection to traffic lights also seems to be wrong.

Hmmmm.......... I see the news article of premature news also contained premature news.

I've just diverted past that way, and it's not working yet. Thai time :D

Excuses, excuses. At 100,000 Baht per light they should work in a nuclear blast area. Why does my mind always go to "someone besides the vendor made money on this...."?

First ‘smart crosswalk’ not so smart: Highway Department red-faced
Breaking News October 05, 2017 13:58
By The Nation http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/ ... s/30328530

The first night test of the “smart crosswalk” at Hua Hin Market was a failure as 32 solar lamps embedded at the zebra cross-walk failed to emit enough light to make the crosswalk easily visible, a senior highway official said on Thursday.

The solar lamps, which cost Bt100,000 each, were embedded in the road in the heart of Hua Hin on Tuesday night to enable them to store energy for their first operational test the following night.

However, Apichart Charnthanyakorn, director of the Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Highways Office, said the yellow solar lamps were insufficiently bright to illuminate the crosswalk on Wednesday night.

Apichart said the cause could be reflected light from large LED billboards nearby drowning out the solar lamps.

Moreover, rains throughout most of the day in Hua Hin might have prevented the lamps from storing sufficient energy, he said.

Apichart said his office would experiment for a few more nights before deciding whether utilise other safety devices.

I think I wasn't far off the truth when I joked about the rain shorting them out and them being recorded in history alongside the bomb detectors :?

Sometimes it is difficult to decide whether to laugh or cry at some of the antics they get up to!
100,000 Baht for an LED light? :(

Yes, I get fed up with re-setting it. Suppose I should switch the date/time display off. 10/10 for observation :D

They're still not working. Drove by in the dark and rain about 40 minutes ago.

Driving in Thailand is not like playing roulette; it's more like poker where the deck is stacked against you.
