Re: Desford Colliery Band World Tour.....and Hua Hin!
I belive it will be a great event. Unfortunately I will not be in LOS until July.
Brass bands have a great spread in my native country Norway, culiminating with performances accross the country on the Norwegian National Day celebration at May 17th every year.
They provide the music and rythms to the nationwide processions taking place.
The brass bands are very much the national backbone of music to children and youngsters - training them and growing them in the art of music.
The brass band music itself, well done, sends shivers down my spine - step a side Keith Richards - here comes a Marching Band!

I won't be around on Sunday for the full show, but I intend being there Saturday. If anybody spots me in the crowd, give me a shove. I'm not being rude, I have a facial recognition problem.

Frank and others, there are lots of you tube videos of the band and their previous tours.
Enjoying 'Retirement'....So many jobs to do, I don't know how I ever had time to work!

Thanks for all those that braved the rain to attend. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did, sorry for the slight delay in starting......in typical Thainess, the minibuses were too big to get to the hotel, so waited round the corner, but didn't tell anyone!
A longer set will be played tomorrow 1-3(ish)

Re: Desford Colliery Band World Tour.....and Hua Hin!
Well, today was day I've been waiting for for a few days. It's always nice when a little bit of England comes to Hua Hin, and its a shame not to support it.
Coming from Plymouth, I grew up with concerts by the Band of the Royal Marines. I guess my only other experience has been the Sally Army, but what the hell, it would be nice to hear a real band again. Today was my only opportunity because I'm away tomorrow.
Mrs BB and I arrived a little early, and enjoyed the supporting act. A Thai band, which made a pleasant enough noise.
We received news the band were running late - something about the band's bus being unable to turn around . TIT they would arrive in Thai Time. I guess my imagination was working overtime, and I was expecting a group old men, dressed in black uniforms, with peaked caps (thinking Sally Army I suppose).
The band eventually arrived. Men and women of varying ages, and they were all wearing matching polo tops
It all started with the Royal tune we hear at all events:
These guys were good, and the hour long concert just flew by.
Even Mrs BB enjoyed the show, which really surprised me.
A couple of other videos from this afternoon:
The guys are playing a full 2 hour concert tomorrow, starting 1pm. I really wish I could be there. If you've got the chance, get yourselves along and enjoy.

Quite a photo/video/sound spread BB, thank you. Close to being there more or less. Where did that gorgeous MC go in photo 1495? That could have been a Benny Hill moment. Pete

Ahh, sorry Pete, I had Mrs BB on my right, and she was on my left. However, I was too engrossed in the music to notice

I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's not often we get a little bit of England in Hua Hin. They were excellent.

An associated musical tradition---since the coal mines shut in S.Wales do they still have the male-voice choirs that were

Thanks for sharing with us. I really enjoyed it ALL. Had I known the performance today I would have made the 7 hour trip to Hua Hin to be there. Nothing like seeing and hearing it LIVE. Don't get that sort of stuff down here.

It was/is a bit special for Thailand.

I've always loved a brass band and this was really special, truly stirring stuff. We're going along today too and won't sit at the back this time but right up front as some of the quiet passages get lost among the shop fronts of MV and general crowd noise.
Well done to Nokyai for getting the band to play in Hua Hin. It's a shame the MV management couldn't stop some of the musak from other stores creeping in and I hope that as and when the band returns to HH in fiture a more fitting venue can be found.

I was unable to get there unfortunately. Just as a point of (unbiased ) interest, how much interest was shown by the Thais? I can see a lot of shiny Farang heads in the audience, but at a guess I would venture to say that a band such as this would be completely beyond most Thais comprehension. It also may explain the comment by J.J.B. concerning the intrusion of other musak.
