Haha Chas I agree with that, you can own the house, but not the land it's on. However, not many people these days live in houses you can move off the land when necessary..
In my case, the kids will inherit the house so I have no qualms about it being in my wife's name. I'm already on the wrong side of sixty anyway..

I seem to remember it was the then ruler of Saudi Arabia who was approached by one of his ministers to inform him that foreigners were ignoring the laws of the land and buying land to build their homes.

Apparently totally shocked he proclaimed that immediately he would enforce the awe and that any foreigner attempting to smuggle his ill gotten land back to his home county would be apreahended by Saudi customs and given the highest punishment allowed under local law.

Maybe an urban legend but...... :offtopic:

Point is that if we own the house the lease giver will have to buy our house at market rate before the land can be sold on. Not many people buying "off plan" do not realise that the assets i.e the money spent building the property is registered in the builders name. If not registered as owners of the house they have no redress to their investment.

:offtopic: Wasn't this thread about a letter to buy or sell a vehicle?
