New Hua Hin Immigration office at Bluport
Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
For 'am' read 'aim'!
Good to hear they got good reviews! If I was here later in the week, I might have tried their fish and chips, but I'm not (as I found out earlier), so I won't!

Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
A while back there was a sign in English on the white plywood in front of the upcoming Immigration office in BluPort. I checked again last week and the sign was gone, white plywood still up and no sing of any construction progress. So, I wonder if this will actually happen.

Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
i just looked up the new location on a map. whoever chose this place should be taken out and shot. of course the 5 yr. old sign on petchkasem will be a big help in locating the new office. this is the stupidest country I've ever lived in. even the people on the outskirts of a village on Majorca in 1961 were smarter than people here.

Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
Do any of the newer songthaews go up that way? I mean anything that get can get me within a day's walk of the new place?
I'm all for decentalisation and the freeing up of the town centre (the airport bus, the new minibus place) but I've always felt that a town centre should have some sort of civic responsibility (not quite the right word). In as much as certain amenities should be in a town centre. OK, we've got the Tessabahn, cop shop, telecoms. They are what make a place a town.
But the new Post Office was located closer to Chiang Mai than HH and that's where my PO Box of 20 years went. I actually went there yesterday and amongst other stuff, collected some Xmas cards - shows how often I use that.
And now Imm are emigrating. OK, as someone said earlier in this thread, Soi 19 isn't exactly the centre of town - but it is a 5 min walk away from Petchkasem Road where a songthaew can drop me off. I don't mind that.
Again, if one of those other songthaews goes close to the new office, then I'll shut up. If one doesn't, then . . . well, rant on again.
And what'll happen to the town centre after all this decentralisation? Oh yeah, knock some stuff down, build a new mall, new condos etc. Anything to make the rich richer and add to the concrete ambience of the place.
Forget about making life easier for the citizens of this town - especially the aliens!!

There are 4 post offices which covers North, South and Central. Can you not choose where your PO box is?But the new Post Office was located closer to Chiang Mai than HH and that's where my PO Box of 20 years went
I'm not sure if there ever was a plan to put immigration in Blueport. There was talk at the time to provide passport facilities for Thais in Blueport.mwbrown wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2017 12:35 am A while back there was a sign in English on the white plywood in front of the upcoming Immigration office in BluPort. Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
AFAIK there aren't any songthaews that go close. There are plenty of buses that will drop you at the Pala-U road end, which followed by a 30 minute walk, playing with the traffic will get you there.
Seriously, this is either a bid to build taxi/tuk tuk trade, or they will have to make some provision.

When something like this happens safe to assume someone in the organization owned a plot of land and made a killing selling/leasing it to the Gov., has family with a construction company to build the facility, has an uncle in the taxi business to transport users, and a host of cousins who will tend to the maid, lawn and garden work. Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
As far as I know, this will be the first immigration building on government land. In the past it was like you say, facility given from developers/land owners/restaurants in return for 'favours'. This time there's nobody calling the shots and no lease to terminate. The guys at immigration believe they will be in the new building for the foreseeable future.
Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
Unfortunately, I think you're right.
(PO Boxes - sure I can choose - if I want to go through the aggro of informing everyone who writes to me of a change of address. Not exactly why I got a box in the first place all those years ago).
But back to the point. There isn't one really. It's all been said above with replies to my question as to how easy it will be to get to.
C'est la vie.

Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
It could be worse, turn the clock back a few years - didn't Hua Hin residents have to report to Dan Singkorn Immigration? Or is that an untruth that I've believed?
If you want an out of the way location, Dan Singkorn make the new Hua Hin location look like city centre.

Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
Correct, back when I first moved to Hua Hin (late 90s) there was no immigration office here, but then there was no need to do 90 day reporting either in the pre-Thaksin days. Passports were usually sent down to Sadao for visa renewals by a Kiwi bloke that also made pies! Those halcyon days.

Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
I would hope for other peoples sake that busses, sonthaews etc do amend their routes but knowing Thailand I doubt it, I am sure many motorbike taxis will be established.Big Boy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2017 10:16 am AFAIK there aren't any songthaews that go close. Re: New Hua Hin Immigration and passport office
I can remember when all Imm business for all of Thailand had to be conducted in BKK.
Then there was decentralisation and eventually HH got their own office.
Excellent, many steps forward.
But now, "let's stick the office in the middle of nowhere".
There's progress for you.
But it's pointless to compare now with how it was 20 years ago. It's great to have our own office but why stick it where it's going. It should be accessible for all - ie in the middle of town.
