Well the rain came during the night, very heavy so just what the garden needed. I guess we have to consider ourselves very fortunate compared to the poor souls living in Southern Thailand who have received unprecedented rain and flooding

And then we have this:
.................................................................................................
Fears mount as Yom's water levels drop

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... evels-drop

Rice farmers and irrigation officials have become gravely concerned over a drought that looks set to hit farmland in the North and upper Central regions, following a decrease in water levels in the Yom River and some other natural water sources.

Parts of the Yom River that run through Phichit have begun to dry up, said Chaeo Intharasun, a rice farmer in tambon Rang Nok in the province's Sam Ngam district, who expects that the difficult situation will become clearer after January when people can walk across some parched sections of the river.

The Yom, originating from mountains in Phayao and Phrae, is one of five major rivers in the North that flow into the Chao Phraya River.

Making matters worse, a section of the Chao Phraya in front of Wat Wongphat, a riverside temple in Ang Thong's Chai Yo district, reportedly prompted concern when a sandbar in the middle of the river was observed.

Ms Chaeo said that farmers in her neighbourhood have no choice but to continue to drain water from the Yom at full speed.
"I hear pumping noises everywhere I go in the rice field," she said.

Phichit irrigation officials are using three weirs to keep water for later use. Each of them can draw between three and four million cubic metres from the river.
However, it is apparent the amount of water is limited while there are large numbers of farmers who rely on the irrigation system, the officials said.

They suggest that rice farmers change their crops, turning to plants which demand less water, or otherwise dig artesian wells or ponds in their fields that will be their "only way out" for growing rice off the rainy season.

Rice farmers in Chai Nat's Manorom district believe a change to other crops is only a good idea on paper as practically all new plants fail to improve their living conditions.

One farmer said that farmers have tried planting maize for use as animal feed and some beans but they were not suitable for the local soil, making it not worth the investment.

Also, he said, there were no markets to ensure the farmers their produce would be bought.
So many families have been forced to grow rice though they have to "risk facing drought and low rice prices", he said.

The situation is also difficult for farmers in Ang Thong's Chaiyo district. Many have begun to face some degree of water scarcity.

"What farmers fear is that the drought is coming unusually sooner," said Sane Misap, who has rented 40 rai for rice cropping.

The warning has been updated and extended....

13 provinces warned of heavy rain, flash floods
Published: 8/01/2017 at 12:21 PM
Online news:

Outbreaks of heavy to very heavy rain are forecast for 13 provinces from now until Jan 10 as the active low pressure over the Andaman Sea and the South and the west coast is moving north slowly into the Gulf of Martaban and Myanmar, according to the Meteorological Department on Sunday.

The 13 provinces are Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan in the lower Central region, and Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun in the South.

People should be aware of the severe weather conditions and possible flash floods from now until Jan 10, and closely follow the weather forecast update.

The strong northeast monsoon still prevails over the Gulf of Thailand and the South, forcing waves up to 2-3 metres high in the Gulf and Andaman Sea. People should beware of inshore surge. All vessels should proceed with caution, and small boats keep ashore for the next few days.

Ratsima's web cam doesn't look pleasant at all. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=31445

What you're getting is missing the southwest tip across the gulf at Sattahip by only a few kilometers, with the occasional squall coming onto the south shore. Having said that, they're predicting heavy rain over here starting around midnight. Pete

Flash flood hits main road to South

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... d-to-south

Drivers to the southern region have been advised to take extreme caution as part of Phetkasem Road in Prachuap Khiri Khan was flooded on Monday.

The central province was hit by torrential rain and a runoff, while many southern provinces were still battered by flooding, which ravaged the region since the new year and claimed at least 21 lives.

A flash flood struck Bang Saphan and Thap Sakae districts in Prachuap Khiri Khan on Monday afternoon mainly from the runoff from the Tanaosi mountain bordering Myanmar.

Bang Saphan district chief Sakarin Tumsen said the water level was up to 50 centimetres high in some locations on the highway to the South.

Bang Saphan police decided to close some lanes of Phetkasem and used ropes to alert drivers where a road dividing ditch was located to prevent vehicles from plunging into the ditch.

Thap Sakae district chief Thanapat Na Ranong told the FM91 traffic radio station that people who planned to drive to the South should delay the trip if it is unnecessary due to the flooded road.

Heavy rain also pounded Muang, Kui Buri and Bang Saphan Noi districts in the province.
Bang Saphan Hospital put up sandbag barriers to prevent the place from being flooded and hastily moved some patients to other hospitals.

"We are assessing whether we can prevent the hospital from getting flooded as rain continues to pound the area," hospital director Cherdchai Chayawattato said.

Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi are braced for more torrential rain and flash floods until Tuesday, the Meteorological Department warned in the latest statement.

Good evening everyone!

Suppose it's too late to start building an ark?
Must be the longest continous heavy downpours since we arrived 4 years ago.

Waiting for the sun to reappear! :)
