Agree 100%!! For whatever reason many visitors and long term residents to the Kingdom seem to lose their foresight of consequence when it comes to seat belts and helmets. Unfortunately this attitude Is often extended to the conveyance of both infants and children both in motor vehicles and motorcycles. Perhaps a visit to the mortuary or trauma ward to observe the outcomes of crashes may cast some doubts over the thought 'It won't happen to me or my family."Big Boy wrote:I've used the airport bus a few times this year, and always belt up. It is amazing how many people get told by the stewardess to belt up, and as soon as the stewardess goes back to sleep, they remove their belts. The majority of the culprits are Europeans, and should know better. Then again, in their home countries, the same people wouldn't dream of going on a motorcycle without a helmet. It's as if when in this country, people turn into rebellious kids, and deliberately shun rules and regulations - I have little sympathy.

18 cars and trucks involved in a road accident in Surat Thani
A road accident involving 18 vehicles of different kinds took place on the road between Na Sarn district and Surat Thani Monday morning but, fortunately, there was no death.
The pile-up apparently stemmed from a cement mixer truck whose driver lost control causing the truck to climb on the road island. A huge crane was then brought in to remove the truck from the road island.
The cement mixer truck was freed from the road island and as it was moving slowly followed by several other cars, a trailer truck laden with mineral ores was descending from a steep road.
The trailer truck failed to stop and slammed into the rear of a car which was moving slowly in a row almost bumper to bumper, resulting in a pile-up involving altogether 18 vehicles.
Several people were injured but there was no death.
Police and rescue officials took about three hours to remove the vehicles and debris from the road before it was reopened to traffic.

Eleven passengers of a bus shuttling between Koh Samui and Su-ngai Kolok slammed into a tree on a road island and flipped one-side up on a road in Narathiwat’s Muang district on Monday morning.

I live 40 miles from Phoenix AZ, USA and very rarely do I venture out to go there. Today was an exception, I had to go to the VA hospital for some tests. Left at 0630, the traffic goes like this; bumper to bumper 75-85 MPH! Its like driving a Nascar race! One person makes a wrong move or checks the old cell phone and WAMO total pile up. Its every where my friends and the minute you get behind the wheel, its survival of the most coherent! People tell me I'm crazy for flying so far. I just tell the its far from the maddening crowd. As for Thailand, I spend the money for safety and security when hiring a driver, its worth my peace of mind. NO MINI VANS, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Net idol 'had no mental treatment' before crash
http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... fore-crash
A young businesswoman responsible for triggering a major car crash on Ratchadaphisek Road on Tuesday has no history of psychological treatment, according to police.
A net idol, Kritrada Thabthimpol, 28, known on the internet and YouTube as Namzom Zomy, was driving her BMW sedan when she appeared to lose control at the wheel and crashed into other cars during evening rush hour on Tuesday.
Motorist Suppa-at Kulasing, 36, told police Ms Kritrada's vehicle rear-ended his Honda Civic sedan with such force that his car crashed into a taxi and another Honda vehicle in front of him.
Ms Kritrada continued to drive her car and side-swiped and crashed into several other cars near the entrance of the Thailand Cultural Centre's subway station, he said.
Police said the crash involved nine vehicles and several people were injured.
............................................................
And then this clown has the following to say:
Songkan Atchariyasap, a lawyer and chairman of the Network Against Acts that Destroy the Kingdom, Religion and Monarchy, said it must be medically established whether Ms Kritrada has suffered a psychological illness.
If so, it could be cited as grounds for reducing any legal punishment against her. He added if the woman had been treated for psychological problems
she would not have been able to obtain her driver's licence.
