Re: Thailand tourist slump continues
Yup, I'm in Bkk for a few days shortly and lots of better than normal offers on the booking sites.

Looking at airfare from California I found $588, lowest that I can remember

^ Wow, the best I ever got from California (going back over 20 years) was $750.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Thailand tourist slump continues
The price of oil also has something to do with the reduced price. I am wondering if that price is one way or round trip...hhfarang wrote:^ Wow, the best I ever got from California (going back over 20 years) was $750.

The $588 is round trip, China Air. Have flown China Air a few times and found them good. Not to be confused with some of the other Chinese airlines!jumusman wrote:The price of oil also has something to do with the reduced price. Driving my car today, when the news switched to English. It was the Government's Good News Department stating that tourism had well exceeded predictions this year, and income from tourism was well in excess of what they had been expecting.
Thoughts........ good news, Hua Hin must have dropped off the tourism map.

Once the Chinese discover Hua Hin it would be different. Be happy that they are not yet coming like they are in Pattaya, Chiang Mai etc.
If they are earning extra from their tourist arrivals then it may be that money is coming through books by way of taxes from hotels, restaurants, water sports etc etc and not disappearing into some hookers knickers.

I've just had a few days in the Chiang Mai area, and yes, there were a lot of Chinese there, but they were not any bother. Certainly not as portrayed in many areas - maybe we were there during Civilised Chinese Tourist Week. Certainly there was no sign of them spending in the bars and restaurants we were using, but they did seem to be making extensive use of organised tours.

I have just come back from a spiritual retreat in Pattaya. It was not very busy around town. I did see groups of clueless Chinese tourist in large groups being hearded through Walking Street. A man with a flag on a long pole was leading them. They all looked like they had no idea what goes on inside the gogos.

GLC I spoon fed you the "spiritual retreat" line. I thought sure you would run with that.GLCQuantum wrote:That 'long pole' you're talking about. Chinese tourism is exactly the same here in Europe, there are large groups of them everywhere but they just go and look at the sights, go to a Chinese restaurant together and go back to the hotel for an early night. Most of them are retired couples and not exactly the type of people to cause any bother to anyone. The only time I've seen any of them in a bar is when big soccer games are on.Big Boy wrote:I've just had a few days in the Chiang Mai area, and yes, there were a lot of Chinese there, but they were not any bother. A photo like that is probably banned in Wales, I'd have thought.
