HHDRC Charity Shop

Post by DawnHRD »

This isn't really "Ask the Expats", but it doesn't fit in "Classifieds" or any of the others, either...

This is an announcement about the HHDRC Charity Shop in the Shopping Mall. I know that a lot of people use us, particularly for cheap books, and those who regularly use us will have noticed that we haven't been open much lately. This is basically due to an increase in Dog Center work, and a reduction in volunteers (Both in center & in shop).

My mum (the other HHDRC manager) will be moving to Hong Kong in early November. At that time, neither I nor her (I'll be doing the dog center with only 1 paid worker & 1 reliable volunteer and she won't be here) will be able to work in the shop. At that time, unless we get more volunteers for the shop, it will have to close permanently.

So, if you want the shop to stay open, please volunteer to man it. If not, please note it will only be open for about 2 more weeks.

Thanks.

Dawn
Would love to help but unfortunately we will not be in Hua Hin till January next year.

If you can manage to stay open till then we will have to arrange something.
Such a shame you are doing such great work.

Hi Dawn,

Even far away in Phuket 'our' hart is still with you.

It sounds like, I will need to make a few more phone calls to keep the shop going (if you need to) as is. Please let us know what you need to be done ASAP.

The Shop didn't come our way that easy and lets not let it go away that easy either.

PS: We will be back in Hua Hin for a few days next week.

Please give us a call when you are not that busy.

Omer and Gill

Thanks to both replies for your support. Omer, of course I don't want the shop to shut, as it (when it's actually open) is our main sustainable source of income & our main point of contact for people to get in touch with us. It's been really useful in many ways. The problem is manning it. I simply can't do my shifts anymore, as we have all the dogs (except the very sick or paralysed) all in one place now & (due to lack of volunteers up there) I need to be up there for long hours every day. I also, as you know, have my little boy to take care of.
Unfortunately, a lot of volunteers have dropped out of the shop recently, as well. Some have found paying jobs, but most say it's too boring. You can have days when you see very few customers (worse when it's hardly ever open, as people just don't bother coming up, assuming it'll be closed again), but I think it's a good chance to catch up with your reading/knitting/balancing your chequebook etc :D
I'd be really grateful if you know anyone who'd be willing to help out, as closing really is a last resort. Thanks again
Hope you're both well & enjoying Phuket :thumb:
