Thai classical song ringtones

Post by PeteC »

From the Bangkok Post. Pete

Sounds of Thai classical music and images of mural paintings, royal palaces as well as works by renowned national artists can now be downloaded to one's cellphone free of charge. Permanent secretary for culture Dhipavadee Meksawan said yesterday the agency initiated the idea to promote Thai arts, which was stigmatised as old-fashioned, with the help of modern technology.

There are more than 50 Thai classical songs which come in various musical genres, including the xylophone, the Northeast's ponglang instrument, and the symphony orchestra, to be made a ringtone of choice. Gems of Thai classical music, like A-noo and Kab Mai Bandoh, including folk songs, are also on the list.

Those wishing to download the songs and the images can do so through www.m-culture.go.th/ringtone which was officially launched yesterday. They come in three categories on the website, ringtones, wallpaper, and screensaver.

According to Khunying Dhipavadee, the list will be updated every month.

Jirapas Yakasem, a student of Sri Ayudhya School, believes the service would be popular among teenagers now that Thai arts has been linked with what they like, new ringtones and wallpaper.

She said some images are rare and difficult to find.

Images marking His Majesty the King's 60 years on the throne will soon be available as well.

FYI, the above listed link is dead. Since it was just set up on Friday, I assume they may have crashed due to quantity of hits? The site was advertised in the Thai papers as well. Give it a few days until the work week starts. Pete

Yes it is, unfortunately.

When you get that error page and click their main web site of www.m-culture.go.th you get a totally different page in Thai than you do if you click the ENGLISH icon. The English is just about the King's 60th anniversary celebations. The Thai is a vast page inclusive of dozens of links.

I had my better half do a quick scan of the Thai pages and she saw nothing about ringtones/wallpaper etc.

Those with Thai spouses may want to look again and spend some time going through all of it in case it's hidden in there somewhere. Pete

Pete, if you delete the comma (,) at the end of your link, you will get to where you're going

Don't bother with the phone number or password request; just click on the ringtone icon on the upper righthand side...
