You can uninstall IE but it is a pain in the ass and many websites (especially banking ones) will only work with it so it is ok just to leave it there and not use it.

I would not recommend a Google browser either, they don't have a very good reputation for personal privacy so it is likely that Chome users will be having all of their browsing habits dumped into Google's massive data collection servers.

As for browsers, imo the best two are Firefox and Opera as both are lightning fast and safe.

However, the add-ons available for Firefox just make it light-years ahead of the rest really.

As Mr B mentioned, just leave IE on the shelf in case some site will only work on that.

Yes I'm certainly finding Firefox much quicker than IE. It's even quicker - and easier - to access the Hotmail account. But there is no sign of IE anymore so I'd assumed Firefox had replaced it and not 'left it on the shelf' which in hindsight was a daft girly thing, because I hadn't actually uninstalled IE.
So if IE is still in there somewhere isn't it still a bit of a threat?

What do you consider the best 3/5 add-ons with Firefox for the very basic user ?

With a fairly recent version of Opera (v.11, I think?) it now finally allows add-on extensions. I'm an avid Opera user and supporter, so was thrilled to have them available. The first one I installed was one to download YouTube videos. So, that's probably one I would also want on Firefox.

All depends what you do on the web, this thread is a little old but most are still available: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=10190

I used to have FF, but with Windows 7 and IE9, i find it is quicker than FF so have got rid of FF.

I would agree about IE7 not being upto scratch, but IE8 was ok, and IE9 does get a lot of browser reviews thumbs up. Of course, you can only use IE9 with Windows 7.

If you do insist on still using IE (whatever version) make sure you download the Microsoft patches on the second Tuesday of every month or you may end up with a computer full of crap!

Hey hhfarang,

Dammed if I can find the IE add on button, that you spoke of......

Can you be more specific please ?....

So far for me everything works in FF, even my banking sites; BUT links to a marketing site I briefly use daily to earn points, does not.
I lie and say still living in Australia, at this site but almost to enough points for my next cheque

Quick reply before HHfarang.

You need to download an IE Add On first. Go to Tools - add ons - and look for an IE add on. Download and the button should show then.
