List of jobs reserved for Thais to be revised

Post by buksida » Wed Jul 19, 2017 7:25 pm

The Employment Department will revise the list of 39 professions reserved for Thai citizens to accommodate the changing circumstances of Thai workers.

Director-general Varanon Peetiwan said on Wednesday the list had not been updated for a long time, but the circumstances of Thai society had changed. The list included bricklaying which proved not to interest Thai workers any longer, he said.

The number of reserved professions was 39 but the cabinet had already allowed migrants to work as labourers and domestic helpers, Mr Varanon said.

The Employment Department would invite representatives of professions to help revise the list to better respond to situation and economic condition, he said.

The 1979 list of reserved professions comprised:

labour work;
agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, or fishery, except work requiring expertise, specialized work, or farm supervision work;

It' will be interesting to see if the new list has professions their nationalistic side wishes they were good at, but aren't yet? They can damage themselves seriously if they aren't careful about what they publish. On the other hand, we may see more opening up....but I wouldn't hold my breath. Pete :cheers:

We don't seem to hear anything about the AEC anymore. One of the agreements in it was the flow of professionals across borders.

about 14 yrs. ago the guberment decided that foreign musicians could no longer work here unless they already had a work permit for each establishment that they played in. most of the musicians left the country and Thai's took over their positions with the result being the end of jazz development in Thailand. today there is a jazz dept. in at least one univ. to what end I don't know. aside from one saxophonist I played with there's a dearth of jazz talent here. I wonder if the new list will create the same sort of decline in other fields. no wood carvers allowed? really?
