Registering your location UK FCO

Post by StevePIraq »

In the past the UK FCO had a system named Locate on which you could register your location and planned travel, this allowed you to receive security and safety updates relevant to the locations listed. It also gave my family a means to track where I was as I was often in conflict areas and making urgent trips. This has now disappeared. Does anyone know of another system for doing this.

Looks like it was abandoned in 2013: http://britishexpats.com/articles/movin ... te-scheme/

Yes I know it has gone that's why I wish to find another option.

Email them. I've always found that the consular section is pretty good with replies and get back within 2 days or so.

I think all you can do now is register to receive alerts by email or RSS feed. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice. You can set this up for multiple country alerts. This might also be of interest https://www.gov.uk/government/announcements. I think you can also follow on twitter, however that works I have to profess total ignorance.

My point was not just about security alerts it is about tracking my location. I can get more detailed security and safety notifications from people I know than the UK government ever give out.
