Consulting Services for Visa Applications

Post by Houdi »

I received a text message on my phone from a company offering Visa services.

Just wondering if anybody else has received this offer. I would like to know how they managed to get my mobile number and how they knew that I was a Farang. I did call and ask them but just got fobbed off with a story that their staff were just contacting people !

It's obviously not a random message so it seems that someone is giving them information. Be interesting to know how many others have been contacted.

It could be that selling phone number lists is not illegal here. I can't recall Visa or Mastercard, but we get a lot of calls for car insurance from unsolicited vendors, usually 2 months before the current policy is due to expire.

I think the longer you have a number and the more times you give it out to companies as a contact, the higher the chance it will get passed on or sold on. Just about impossible to determine the leak IMO.

If it really becomes abusive you can block the calling number on your phone. I say that for an IPhone and assume on Samsung and others you can as well. I don't know how to block an SMS message. I guess you would have to contact the provider. Pete
