Let's hear some instances where people who have it have actually used it? Is it just something to have in case of emergency (like a derringer  ) or is it actually useful? I've a yellow book for years but I haven't gone to get the ID card yet. Pete

I've used it for checking into most hotels without a passport.

National Parks are hit and miss, all depends on how fascist the gatekeeper is.

The thing that gets my BP to the explosion point is the disconnect between Immigration and the local government. Why in the :cuss: :banghead: :guns: hell should a returning non-immigrant with a valid Yellow Book have to run at speed within 24 hours to the local immigration office to do the damn 24 hour "arrival at address" report. I've asked the question of immigration, I've always gotten blank stares and no answers. Bureaucracy with no direction, and going in no direction. Pete

Sorry. Not a "bat bprachachon" "บัตรประชาชน". In fact it's says so on the back. Anyway, I hope you find it useful. Cheers.

Instances I've used my ID Card:

- Internal Flights
- Pattaya Ferry
- Checking into Hotels
- Thai entry price to National Parks
- Hospital (checking in process)
- Posting letters/parcels
- I'm sure there are other uses - just can't think of them at the moment.

On the other hand, the only use for my Yellow Book has been to obtain my ID card.

^ I would think their acceptance is interchangeable. If you go to the trouble to lug around the book I imagine you would get the same benefits. However, an official card with photo is something dear to the Thai heart and indeed it may open more doors than the book itself that it's based upon. :? I'm not trying to poo poo the card as I really have meant to get one over the past year but slipped the mind and not urgent. It's always good to have a handy thing in the wallet to pull out if at times some extra ummmffff is needed. :D Pete

Information in other places suggests that the yellow book and hot-pink ID card should be applied for at the Amphur, but here you've been saying that you got it at the Tessaban. Left me a little confused. Which is it?

Definitely Tessebahn for Hua Hin. Of course, it might be slightly difference in other towns.

Okay, I think I figured it out. The Tessaban in HH is "special". It contains both an Amphur office (1st floor) and a Tessaban office (2nd floor). This was done apparently because the main Amphur is too far from town.

So all this business is still happening at the Amphur, it just happens to reside at the Tessaban building.

I didn't know people actually did that. Wife and I never have and our next 90 day renewals are done without comment.

Won't a Thai driving license do all of those. I use mine whenever I'm asked for ID (including the BiB of course :))
