ATM free of fees in Hua Hin?

Post by Rshome123 »

What proportion of ATMs in Hua Hin charge for foreign currency withdrawals using mastercard?

Travelling in 6 months time, and want to know for when I travel.

As far as I know all ATMS charge for foreign currency withdrawals. The AON Bank on the top floor of Market Village used not to charge, but I am told they are also charging now. They all charge about the same amount per transaction. When I was there in March I believe the charge was THB 150.- That may have changed.

A word of warning: Make sure the ATM keyboard looks normal. There are quite a few cases of ATMs copying credit card data and subsequent fraud. If you can, use the ATMs at the bank. Avoid free-standing ATMs in the tourist district. This goes for all over Thailand - and the far east as well.

Enjoy your trip. :thumb:

Some, possibly all, banks are up to a Baht 180 fee now. :(

Not sure which country you're from. But when I travel from UK I use the Halifax One credit card, you get the inter bank exchange rate and no charges for withdrawing cash and I was not charged a fee when I used it in Hua Hin in April this year

Hi Taff.... I've recently got a Halifax credit card purely for the purposes of the no charges abroad from Halifax. It's not labelled as Halifax "One" so not sure if it's the same as yours.

My understanding is that the ATM/bank may charge a fee for withdrawing cash.

May I ask if you had a favourable exchange rate when you withdrew cash, compared to the mastercard rate ?

I'm going to be drawing some funds soon out of my UK account with my ATM card, so was just wondering at the present time which (if any) banks in H.H. is the most 'favourable' fee-wise..?
When I last used my card, which was way back in June last year the Aeon bank had just started charging 150B...is that bank/office still on the 3rd floor of M.V. ?
Are there any ATMs to avoid..??
Many thanks in advance.

Depending on how much you're taking out, I always used the foreign desk at Bangkok Bank. Not as convenient as an ATM but they didn't charge anything and you can withdraw as much as you like as long as you've got the funds.
The no charge was being applied some 18 mths ago. Havn't used them since.

That's a great tip last March was the rise of ATM fees upto 160 baht and I must have used them twelve times in a month.
I should really open a thai bank account.

Using an ATM 12 times in a month sounds like bad planning!

Alternatively, open an HSBC account in the UK, then you can transfer as much as you like to a Thai a/c for 4 quid. Most useful for residents, but probably quite handy for regular visitors.
This is the way
