I thought you are only allowed to take 50,000 Thai Baht through the airport.

2. Local Currency

There is no restriction on the amount of Thai baht bank notes that may be brought into the country.

A person traveling to Vietnam, the People's Republic of China (only Yunnan province) and Thailand's bordering countries is allowed to take out up to THB 2,000,000. Taking out Thai Baht bank notes in an amount exceeding THB 450,000 requires declaration to a Customs Officer.

A person traveling to other countries is allowed up to THB 50,000.

If you want to transfer it to a bank in another country, rather than take cash, Krungsri Bank will let you transfer 500,000 Baht at a time without any need for FET certificate.

The Bangkok Bank manager told me you could transfer up to the equivalent of one million U.S. dollars per year to a bank in another country using their wire service.

Kasikorn allow up to 1m Baht at any one time with no supporting documentation, I had to complete a form and the female assistant was very helpful even advising my reason for transferring.

Another way is to draw a banker's draft from Bangkok Bank which you can cash at the Bangkok Bank in London. I guess the same goes for other branches abroad.

I've got 7.5 million baht I want to transfer to USA. Can I just go to the bank every day and make transfers.

You should be able to transfer that in one wire transfer using Bangkok Bank. We transferred exactly that amount several months ago from Bangkok Bank to Bank of America. The cost was minimal and it took 3 days to appear in my BofA account.

Which branch was that? When my wife recently made enquiries at the Market Village branch they made it seem like it was almost impossible when she asked about transferring 2 million baht abroad.

Then when she enquired further they said they would need to see all kinds of documents from the country she was sending to to, which she didn't have, and also have to show how she got the money.

However we have since made a few calls to the K-Bank call centre, but have had two different answers from two different people. Of course they didn't volunteer the idea of doing two transactions at a million baht each. I think one operator said we could transfer unlimited funds from our home branch, and another said a limit of two million from any Kasikornbank branch that wasn't our home branch.

The limit on taking Thai banknotes out of Thailand through the airport has recently been raised from 50,000 baht to 500,000 baht. The same as crossing a land border to neighbouring countries.
