Online Ordering - a sign of the times?
Re: Online Ordering - a sign of the times?
I have used Lazada mainly for high end items, paint sprayer half the price of HP. But you have to be careful they use many suppliers, the RC batteries charger which arrived last night (DHL at 18.30 hours) prices ranged Baht 5,000 plus with many round 1,500 with my supplier wanting just Baht 827 for exactly the same item!
Anyone used Banggood .com? What is the customs situation?

Being in Bang Saphan we have started using Lazada and have had good luck. Prices seem fine and they have items not available down here.
Also have started using Passion Delivery for food. Have found their items to be excellent quality as well as fantastic customer service.

I have have used banggood frequently in Australia for electro-mechanical items and been quite happy with delivery and products. I have not ordered anything from them in Thailand so I cannot advise how you will get on with customs and duty here.

Many things from BG, pass on expedited shipments, as guarantee a duty will be charged when arrive. All the rest make it through without duty. My ' go to' online, pay with PayPal, same with Ebay, also good and COD with LAZ.

I have never used Lazada, and all the stuff they have for sale on their website just looks like cheap poor quality Made in China knock-off products.migrant wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2017 8:51 am Being in Bang Saphan we have started using Lazada and have had good luck. Passion Delivery has a 3000 baht minimum order for all deliveries outside of Bangkok and there's no way I'm ordering 3000 baht worth of goods at one time.

Yes, a lot does come from China, but isn't that the case the world over these days? To date, everything we've bought has been fit for purpose, and only one thing (a 15mtr retractable dog lead for over 30Kg dogs) has broken so far. Even that, was good value for money, gave great service, and I've since bought 2 more. I'm sure somebody will prove me wrong, but I've never even seen one on sale in a Thailand shop. For 280 Baht, I'm not complaining.

That's true, a lot of U.S. Companies use China as a manufacturing 'Hub' these days.Big Boy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2017 10:34 am Yes, a lot does come from China, but isn't that the case the world over these days? Good to see I am not alone in reacting to the China = cheap and nasty comment. Too many people conveniently forget where the iphone in their pocket came from and too many companies touting high price goods don't mention that they source most if not all of the product from China.
For sure China does sell a lot of low price and quality goods and these serve a market that cannot afford name brand consumers. In regard to Lazada I have bought a few items and have not been disappointed but I don't expect Mercedes quality at Dacia prices.
My next adventure will be into Aliexpress and I would be interested to know of others experience with this online source supplying items to Thailand.

I have never been able to find what I want on Aliexpress. Actually, I've found a number of products that I'd like, but not in the quantities I want.

I use Aliexpress regularly to buy tooling for my hobby shop. It works very well for me and you have the benefit that Aliexpress does not pay the supplier until you confirm delivery of the goods and satisfaction. If you are unhappy you can open a dispute with the supplier for full refund if necessary.
Like any of these offshore online services you can get varying quality but generally I have been very happy with the goods that I have bought and I now buy from suppliers who I know supply good quality
Smaller items are generally posted by registered China Post and delivery can take 3 weeks. If posted by China Post I have never paid import duty or VAT. If you elect to use DHL or similar the goods will of course arrive quicker but I have always faced import duty and VAT payments when the parcel is received.

Big Boy, have you tried Alibaba as I thought they complemented Aliexpress offering larger quantities. I have used alibaba to source items for a ship but that was for supply in China and my procurement dept is Chinese so language was not a problem. I suspect you have but thought I would mention it.
Good info about using China Post as avoiding the apparently random charges from the customs dept is preferable.

That is my problem. The items I want are on Alibaba, available in unrealistic quantities. I only want ones and maybe twos. When I check Aliexpress, the items are not available there.

^^ I often find it easier to find things on AliExpress by using Google with an AliExpress domain search. It seems to find products I can't find by using the AliExpress search engine??
I tend to use image search. Sometimes the suppliers use very Chinenglish descriptions but Google seems to find a way through.

If a product were 100% designed and manufactured in China it would indeed be 'cheap and nasty'.
China is not really a 'manufacturing' hub for U.S. but more of an 'assembly' hub for U.S. products, and some of the materials that are used to make a product do indeed come from the U.S.
It's not rocket science, U.S. products are assembled in a factory in China and then they are put into a cardboard box and then they are sent back to the U.S. or end consumer by ship or plane.
