bitten by someones dog
bitten by someones dog
Hi,
I got bitten by someones dog today.
I was cycling past as they opened the gate and it ran up and bit my ankle. Not too bad, but punctured the skin. When I approached the owner (not a Thai), they said something like "this is Thailand, you should have hit it with a stick" or words to that effect, anyway, I was so mad I bit my tongue and left.
Hua Hin hospital wanted me to get 5000B worth of treatment (jabs) plus another 4 shots at 400B each over a week or so. I declined the most expensive jab at 3500B or so and took the rest, they said I coudl come back and get that one.
Is it right that the dog owner should pay or not?
Cheers.

i should add, I haven't approached them about this yet. But I will. And if i was the owner, I would pay.
Re: bitten by someones dog
I don't know where you stand legally, but when one of our dogs bit a cat, Mrs BB paid the (just under) 5,000 Baht vet bill, without being asked. The dog owner must take some responsibility.

If the guy is an ar@ehole and won't contribute I don't think you've a leg to stand on unless you've got witnesses. AND even then....................?

Without coming across as being a smart a*se how are you going to approach the dog owner with a large stick, or park a truck or car across his enterence until he comes out.

Maybe I've been in Thailand too long, but if it happened to me and the dog owner didn't want to pay the bill, then I'm afraid his dog would swiftly be sent off to doggy heaven. As the owner said to you, this is Thailand, deal with it the Thai way. I can't see many Thais just accepting being bitten.
Alternatively, you could go to the police.

Exactly what i would do to. ...How will you feel if you don't do that and next time it bites a small child.Takiap wrote: but if it happened to me and the dog owner didn't want to pay the bill, then I'm afraid his dog would swiftly be sent off to doggy heaven'
When nosy expats ask how can i live here without working, i reply, 'well, while you worked hard for 50 years, i worked smart for 5 years'

Thanks for the replies will let you know how it goes
Re: bitten by someones dog
If the owner won't compensate then file a police report. From experience, a visit from the police works.

Thanks, that is what I shall do.
