Came across this old colonial film about high society life in Thailand from 95 years ago. Interesting styles and the ladies haircuts were a surprise.

Very interesting, you can still see in traditional Thai society, remnants of the greeting and and style of behaviour. The higher the status of the person the more pronounced is the style of greeting. Also the respect shown to the elders. One of the charming sides of Thai life.
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.

Interesting.
Maybe not typical but there is nothing wrong in learning about the culture of the country in which you live.

I actually find this type of thing very interesting - it's pushing 100 years old....... Thanks for posting JD.ChichoSpit wrote:I cant believe I spend 9 minutes watching this...

^^ me too JD. I've taken the liberty of sending it to friends of mine who will really appreciate the clip. Interestingly I got looks of awe and almost disbelief when showing it a couple of Thai friends (in their 50's). I'm sure they had absolutely no idea what their ancestry was like

Absolutely! It was a very interesting insight in what this community was like a 100 years ago.pharvey wrote:

I guess somebody is just too young to understand the importance of history and culture.

Made me think that it's a far cry from modern Thailand and that you may only get a glimpse of something like this in the remote rural areas of Thailand where some comparisons can be made. In my days in Isaan I did experience the 'all fours' approach to a host or hostess particularly siblings approaching their father.

^ Cultures certainly change Richard and one I've found somewhat sad is China. Even over the 15 odd years I spent there, the change was incredible - wonderful for the country industrially and financially, but the changes in attitude and culturally with regards (mainly) to the next generation are NOT good..... They seem to have lost their history and culture, which to me is a very sad thing. That said, I see it in the UK also.
