Mrs BB has been talking to a local supplier, and for a bulk order they will do boys socks @ 19 Baht a pair, and girls socks at 24 Baht a pair.

Therefore, 100 pairs of socks will cost 50 @ 19 Baht + 50 @ 24 Baht = 2,150 Baht.

I will be contacting those of you who have kindly made pledges by PM in the next few days.

How many children are at this school, I mean ideally to give each child a pair of socks, how many do you need?

OK, I was going to save this detail for the PM's, but as you ask..............

There are approximately 250 kids at the school, so I was looking at 2 pairs each. Yes, we already have pledges well in excess of that already. Any surplus, I was going to suggest converting into underwear, which is something the kids are always in need of.

If you look back at the original thread viewtopic.php?f=22&t=27443 , you will see that we also donated underwear during our July trip. Underwear is an item they are always looking for

I just think it is fairer to all of the kind people willing to donate, that they all work in the same 'socks unit'. I promise you that every Baht will go towards the kids, and forum members will be welcome to join us in January, to share in the experience.

B.B, Pete mentioned earlier a particular brand of quality. How do we ensure we do purchase a good pair of socks. I've bought cheap socks in Thailand before and the wear very quickly.

These are the same socks my grandchildren wear - they seem to last them. I certainly never see them with huge holes in. I'm not sure if they are branded - I will check, and do a cost comparison. I will then report back.

pharvey,
thank you for your generous donation.
I have received it in my U.K. account and converted into Baht as per our P.Ms.

Also big thanks to my family members who have also kindly donated bringing our target to:

70%

Keep those donations flowing.
Merry Christmas folks.

You guys have done a great job. Unfortunately I can't donate money myself in my current situation, but I will donate some reams of paper as soon as I'm down.

Just wondering, what makes girl's socks more expensive than boy's socks? It's not worth a thread and is an unimportant question - just curious.

Again, well done to the lot of you.

I think its the quality, remembering they are worn like slippers at school. The girls socks seem to have re-enforced heels, where as the boys socks are just socks. Just my perception - I might be miles away.
