Is Living Here Difficult for You?

Living here is like being a non-existent person. You can spend money but that's about all. No rights, no residency, no inclusion. We are basically aliens to the local Thais. I myself like the privacy and lack of intrusion but many get frustrated with being an anonymous being and without input to their society.

and that is one of the reasons i came here. that and being treated like brad pitt everywhere i go...

i am getting use to the brad pitt thing...

Wow!! I want some of what you guys have got. Unfortunately, I have to show (and give) my passport details on a regular basis. I have to reveal to others how much I earn, If I'm single or married, how old I am, my weight...throw in the being stared at and we have a full house.

What part of Thailand are you guys from...I want in.

Lived in Hua Hin for 3 years and not once have I had to show my passport to anyone but immigration which is to be expected. What kind of places are you going where you have to show your passport and give details ?

In the last 32 years, apart from immigaratiom I have very rarely been asked to show my passport, I guess GLC is some sort of special case or maybe a Spambot to generate interest here

I've been found out! The wealthy lads at this here forum pay me good money to create conversation. They even bought me a Honda Click for my services.

I have a nice, easy life here. The changes that have come to Korat over the past ten years are mostly positive; mainly in terms of choice and quality. Granted, there are frustrations involved in living in LOS, but they are no worse than those I experienced living on Saipan for 26 years.

The biggest disappointment for me was coming to grips with the fact that I'm too stupid to learn Thai. I tried very hard for many years, to no avail. I finally decided to stop butting my head against the try-to-learn-Thai wall and concentrated on developing strategies for living here without knowing Thai. That has worked well.

One other drawback for me is the complete lack of friends. My life-before-Thailand was a very social one; awash with friends and social activities. Adjusting to a more solitary lifestyle was tough at first, but I'm good with it now.

BTW, interesting thread. I don't participate much in this forum, but thoughts like those expressed here are very interesting.
