Are Thais tolerant or indifferent?

Sometimes I feel they're being tolerant with all that goes around them and then other times I think they're just indifferent. They have to contend with so much but mostly take it in their stride. That is, political situation, having to speak different languages with tourists, etc

I think that they are indifferent to so many things. The idea that they can make a difference, change things is not in theirDNA. So why concern yourself with things, just accept them and go about your day.

I would say indifferent, also most i'v met have no thirst for knowledge outside of smartphones and tv's

Thais have a philosophy that if they have a problem with something either ignore it or sleep on it and a magical 5 solutions will appear. Seems to work generally. Never met a stressed Thai in my time here.

There was more pointless mobile phone usage in London when I was there a month ago

The use of mobile phones by Thai females should be restricted to 30 minutes per 24 hrs.
Most of them don`t need a phone at all. They scream so loud into the darn thing that they can be heard without it.

Thais are like most of us, they work, they try to get by in life. some get rich, many don't, some
gamble and have a hard life, a few that I know drink, and are called mauw, or drunk, even if they have only had 1 beer or glass of wine. My Thai family and relatives are pretty good people and have
always treated me good. I have learned not to say I like some things or I get a whole box of whatever it is, such as a box of large Chang beer when I said I like Chang. I said I occasionally like lemonade,
and got 2 bags of lime, or so I thought until I tasted it. It was Nam Farang, or guava juice and sure tasted diffetrent than I was expecting, very salty as well! So my long answer is that some are tolerant, and have
good humors and enjoy life. Some that wished life and people were better are indifferent, and can
be a bit grouchy when they are having a bad day. I have met a few touts in BKK at the Grande Palace area, and the reclining Buddha area, but that was years ago, and I can spot them kind better now.

Generally indifferent I'd say, unless it's to do with family or money. But then again, indifference is a condition that could be leveled at many from all over the world in most modern societies.

Richard, I think that maybe you also need to pay a visit to my office and see the stress levels of the Thai management. We only employ English speaking graduates and those in senior management positions have as much stress and pressure as any in the west. Admittedly this is only 10% of the employees but the stress and commitment is the same (salary is also way above Thai norms). As for the majority of the workforce they do a good job but take little responsibility. Maybe the title of the tread should be Are Thais tolerant or indifferent or take a responsible attitude?"
