Married Men Doing Grocery Shopping

Post by dozer »

I have to admit I never go grocery shopping and I am curious, do the married guys go willingly or are they dragged there?
Atheists have no need of a god. Our lives are not based on fear or guilt. We are moral because we know it's right.

Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity. R J Hanlon

Mostly dragged because I'm the driver. However, I have been known to volunteer during times of illness.

Can't think of a more boring way to spend my time. Which is why Mrs D-M doesn't encourage me to go - she likes to dawdle and meander...

Good point by BB, though - fortunately Mrs D-M drives (very well, as it happens).
This is the way

Been doing grocery shopping on own initiative (without cheese) all my married life, like my father. No big deal. It's natural in a relationship based on equality.
Kind of "oldfashioned" question.

Love shopping alone, very rare that my girlfriend comes with me.

I prefer shopping in the UK, I am methodical with my trolley going up every aisle.

Here in farangland (only I drive) it depends on what store. Supermarket I go.alone, Asian food supermarket sometimes we go together, Thai specialty she always goes with me. In Thailand (she does almost all the driving) we both go unless it is running out for a.few thing.

I do most of the grocery shopping. Occasionally I take the missus with me but mostly I do it because I have special dietary needs and she eats mostly cheap Thai food. I go to Villa Market on my own a couple of times a month and to Tesco and Hua Hin Shopping Mall at least once a month each with or without the missus. If she goes alone, I still have to go because she always forgets things I/we need, plus if there are three similar products on the shelf, she will invariably pick the most expensive one without even checking the prices.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

When in Thailand I eat Thai food so my partner does all the shopping, mainly at local markets. I've been known to go to Branburi Makro but only to buy drinks. In Europe I live in an airport hotel so I don't worry much about shopping here although I sometimes buy stuff from a 24 hour service station.
If I never had to visit a supermarket again, I would be happy!

I don`t have a problem shopping with or without Mrs.A, however I insist on loading the trolley and packing the shopping as like many women she doesn`t have a sense of the best use of space, eg trying to put bottles of water onto a load of eggs/crisps. Oh I am perfect am I not!!!

Love shopping, I find it relaxing except when the wife tags along, then it's a nightmare.

My wife doesn't drive a car but even if she did, when we do our big shop (normally at Makro) every 4-5 days we go together and both select what we need. My wife goes to the Market in Cha Am about 2-3 times a week, but nearly always goes on her own - I've probably only been half a dozen times in almost 3 years.

Whether single or not, I do the shopping. I have never found a S.O. that can be trusted to do it!

Like big-kev, I find it really quite therapeutic and quite resent anyone interrupting my reveries over the pasta sauce with prodding about the dull realities of toilet paper. I have learned through experience that I cannot trust another person to buy the things I am prepared to eat - or prepare - since I also do most of the cooking!

I have been doing it for the last 15 years, Florida, Uk and Hua Hin, I do it better and buy things I also like to eat, as I also do 70% of my cooking.

It is a pleasure and so so therapeutic as you say.
