I used to grocery shop a lot in the US as raising two kids myself. I was always the 0530 hours food shopper in my neighborhood. They never changed the entire store like they do here. Granted special stacks of breakfast cereal or some other item would show up in a prominent spot at an end of an aisle from time to time to catch shopper's attention, but that was about the extent of it. The places I used I could shop with my eyes closed just about. Last time was more than 10 years ago now so perhaps they have changed also, I hope not. I'll have to ask my daughter. Pete

I used to go shopping with my Thai wife I would have my list and she would have hers. I would finish before she had got 2 items. She has to read everything, so now we go separately. Keeps me calm. I agree with BB when they do move things it drives me nuts.

How long are we talking? I think the practice has only been in place for around the last 10 or so years. Used to happen a lot in England when I was there. Not the whole store at any one time; but groups of products would be moved from one isle to another frequently.

^^ Because people get used to zeroing in on the things they know they need. Switching things around increases footfall as people pass unfamiliar product to find the stuff they want. It (allegedly) increases the chances of you buying other stuff, on impulse, thru serendipity, or any other marketing-ism that is currently in vogue.

Why not just go up and down every aisle until you come to the thing you want, this way you also get to see any new products on offer, simple really.

^ That's exactly what I do... after all, I'm retired. Why not spend the time to look up and down every aisle, especially here when entire product ranges change week to week. I've made some great finds, even in Tesco at times. Again, the only annoyance is the stockers blocking the aisles... I worked in supermarkets from 15 years old to 18 in all capacities and when we stocked shelves was from midnite to 7 a.m., not during the store's busiest hours.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

There's nothing wrong with men going grocery shopping either with their partner or not. Mrs B and share the task depending on what is wanted and who is available. The same goes for all other shopping.

Today though I have to admit a first. Last week we went to China Town in Bangkok, both with our own shopping lists. On mine were some specialist engineering tools, which I was singularly successful in locating and buying with minimal help from Mrs.B. But then came the real challenge.....I wanted to buy some specialist steel in the Odeon Circle area. I thought that I got it right but how wrong could I be! What I bought was totally wrong. Today, without me asking she went back with some steel specs ( that I explained) and bought exactly what i wanted.

Who expects a wife to buy specialist steel?...not me!!! But she did!!!

I had said I liked grocery shopping, and I do, but not in one of those stores like Tesco that has clothes, appliances, etc. Here in the states we have some, like Tesco (Walmart) and I din't go, but the food only stores are fine.

Like Pete I go very early so no crowds and also like others if mrs m goes it takes three times as long!

This may come as a bit of a shock to some you but supermarkets are in business to make money, so they change things around a bit to maybe persuade you to buy things outside your normal shopping, not to deliberately p@ss off the grumpy old men of HHAD.

I know quite well what they are doing, but it simply drives me out. I won't play their stupid games.

(I posted this previously--or so I thought :? ) Because in Thailand 50% of the aisle are blocked 100% of the time by restocking, regardless of the time of day it maybe! :cuss:
