It's neck and neck between JD and christopher1 - both deserve a medal for Thai longevity

This is fascinating stuff, discussing it tonight with friends, I heard of a couple who have been here without a break for 5 years and have NEVER been to BKK since they arrived.

So looks like JD has the record so far... and I can understand that having been to his place and seen how busy he is on a day to day level.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I think you'll find a few in remote villages in Isaan who have not been home since the Nam war.

Do they know that the war is over?

My last trip outside the country: September 2006
Re: When was your last time outside Thailand?
My last arrival stamp is about March 20, 2013. I go back to the US for about two weeks almost every year. I skipped 2011 - the only year I've skipped since I moved here in 2007. I may skip 2014, but two years is about as long as I want to go between trips home, so I'll go in 2015. I enjoy seeing friends, family and colleagues, shopping, especially for electronics, driving in a sane environment, and speaking and understanding the local lingo perfectly rather than barely adequately.
If we could afford it, the missus and I would probably live 3 months in the US and the rest of the time here. It's the US side that would be expensive. Renting a safe, livable place for three months a year would be expensive.
I'll probably keep going back every year or so until I'm too old or can't afford it (which would make me REALLY look at my budget) or move back there.
