When was your last time outside Thailand?
When was your last time outside Thailand?
I was at lunch yesterday with a friend who is an onshore/offshore worker who lives here part time and he was shocked when I told him how long I've been inside the Thailand borders non stop. He said it must be a record. I doubt it but it got me wondering if I'm one of the few who has done this and if maybe that's why I have such a bad case of jungle fever.
So, how long have you been in Thailand without crossing the border, (even for a few hours for a border run) non stop?
My last entry stamp was on November 1st 2005 so I've been inside Thailand continuously for over 8 years.... and only left once (in 2005) since September 15th 2004; any foreign citizens longer than that, or how long have you done it now or in the past?

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Was you born in Hua Hin ?
If yes, I have to tell you what 95% in Ukraine don't leave the county for all life.

My last arrival was Feb 2007 after a visa run to Penang. Since then I've been working, so no further need for visa runs, and I've lost the Wanderlust now.
Work and dogs make long absences difficult anyway, and if I do feel the need for a few days away, there is plenty of Thailand left to be explored - Chiang Mai in particular.

I don't really fit into this thread since I still visit Malaysia every 17 months for a 1 year visa, and of course that also results in me having to have a beer at the Anderman Club every 90 days. However, if it weren't for the visas, I would have been here non-stop since thge end of 2003.

Last August, when my father passed away.
Used to be around two years between forays out, hard to say these days but will probably still be around twice a year as Mum is still around.
However, to put time spent in Thailand into perspective,I've probably spent less than two months away in total over the last twenty-five years resident in Thailand.

Interesting to read. As I budget for retirement in Thailand I plan on a trip back to the states yearly. I know as I get (even) older I may not want to, but my two kids are here so I figure I will visit them, or send them some money to visit me.

Just under 3 years HHF so no way I can challenge your 8 year stay. Here's to your next 8 years whether it is in Thailand or elsewhere.

I try to get an overseas trip at least once a year, Indo, Nam, Burma, Phillys etc - gives one a nice perspective on living in Thailand and offers a good glimpse into the alternatives.
Haven't been back to the west though for about 16 years now.

Absolutely agree, Buksi. We always come back from our trips refreshed, and happy to be back in Thailand. We go back to the UK every two years during our long holiday, and other places in between.buksida wrote:I try to get an overseas trip at least once a year, Indo, Nam, Burma, Phillys etc - gives one a nice perspective on living in Thailand and offers a good glimpse into the alternatives.

The opposite experience. In 2008, although a Thai resident, I left the country over 30 times on business trips, sure uses up youR PP in a hurry.
Re: When was your last time outside Thailand?
I go home (UK) about every three years to see family and in the intervening years the family used to come here to Thailand. Now with the globe shrinking I'm starting to meet up with family in the surrounding countries and it's good for us all in terms of learning and experiencing new but similar cultures. Always enjoy coming back here though as this is now my home and the majority of my friends are hereVital Spark wrote:Absolutely agree, Buksi. When you move make sure everyone has Facebook accounts. Makes life better and you get a general feeling you're still involved in their day to day life back there, especially if you have grand kids. Into my eleventh year without leaving Thailand. I will be renewing my passport in August 2014 and it doesn't have a single exit stamp in it.
