Not quite in the garden yet, but this bad boy was just outside this morning (3 dogs pacing up and down daring him to come in). The head was shaped like an arrow - luminous green. Does anybody know what it is? Dangerous or not?

The local Thais reckoned I was crazy going close to get a photo, and if it bit me, I'd be dead within 6 hours (don't they always say that?).

I asked Mrs M if it was poisonous. She said some of the green ones are, some aren't.
I asked her how she knows which ones to stay away from.

She said all of them.....

Looks like a green vine snake or whip snake.
Danger to humans: Not dangerous to humans. Though it has a weak venom, it only takes effect if the snake is able to chew for an extended period of time and is not potent enough to cause symptoms past itchiness and mild swelling.

Well done Arlo, that's the baby. Not dangerous (typical Thai reaction). Just as well I've just stopped the local hatchet squad from dispatching him. Mrs BB told them that I was studying it .

Here's hoping they don't bring me any other specimens to study :D

It's a rather elegant creature, with an air of dignity. I'm glad it's not dangerous.

Found this in my garden today. My dog's normally pretty good at keeping snakes out but I can't seem to find him...

Certainly eaten something substantial by the look of it - a rat maybe?

If those tiles are 4", the fat part stretches 12" or slightly more. Perhaps a cat, too big for a rat, or a chicken.

Have you checked to see if your dog is still around?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Agreed. It is a beautiful snake and only mildly dangerous if you let him/her chew on you for a while!

In this respect it is similar to the bronze back, golden tree snake and spotted cat snake shown earlier. No front fangs, poison fangs are at back of the jaw. If confident and the snake is not stressed you can handle easily.

Can't be sure and there is the problem, but looks like a well fed rat snake which is usually pretty harmless to humans. The rat snake is active during the day, is very fast and usually flees from humans before they get too close. If cornered, the snake bites very quickly and can even jump at their aggressor. This snakes helps keep rats and mice at bay as I think we can see :D not venomous..... But can anyone confirm?
