New Mini-Bus Terminal Soi 51

Post by Geko »

Reliable source informs me that a new bus terminal for all the small buses is under construction in Soi 51, great idea if true. I came down 51 the other day and looks like it could be correct, on the left hand side going East there's a large area under construction.

This confirms it's a mini-bus station, which starts operating on 1st April (great choice of date). I guess the Soi 51/Petchkasem Road junction, especially for Northbound could become a challenge.

They were installing CCTV there today. Is it actually a passenger terminal or an off street secure parking facility? Admittedly it would be great if it's a passenger terminal. Could be either.

The sign doesn't actually say it's for mini buses either, just referring to fixed route passenger vehicles, which could be mini buses or passenger vans, but could also be full sized buses. No more waiting at the clock tower for buses going south?

I'm seeing photos of the new terminal operating this morning on Social Media (sorry, still can't upload). Be careful, the Soi 51/Petchkasem junction could become a bit hairy for a few days.

Has the Soi 51 Bus Station closed permanently, or is the revival of the old departure points temporary because of Covid?

I know of 3 departure points that have been revived, and I'm sure there will be more i.e.

- End of Soi 96
- Market Village
- End of Soi 70

AFAIA, it hasn't closed but obviously has been non-functional during covid - and still is. There's nothing that I've seen to indicate that it's changing its function.

I'm just wondering because the old places are being brought out of mothballs, in particular the place at the end of Soi 70, which was always a traffic hazard.

It is as advertised by Market Village, so definitely some form of translation.

You need to watch out for that Dr Chit, especially if you are looking for a cuddle.

Yes, the doctor amused me too, and Thais are forever having cuddles (anybody know what it means when it translates as cuddle?). In this case it was their translation, not mine
