Re: Phuket to Hua Hin by bus..has anybody done it and how reliable
I travelled on the day bus from Hua Hin to Phuket last year and Phuket to Hua Hin. Coach arrived 2 hours late at Hua Hin bus station due to heavy Bangkok traffic. The luxury coach was full of young kids not in their assigned seats. The bus staff weren't inclined to sort it out. Non stop movies played at fairly loud volume. There were several scheduled stops on the way, Chumporn and Ranong for example. Just enough time for a nature break. Several times we were stopped by the military who were at the height of their anti human trafficking campaign. Everyone had their documents checked and at some point a group of young kids was removed from the bus, more or less in the middle of nowhere. There were plenty of impromptu stops where the bus staff offloaded and took on boxes, cargo etc. It took 17 hours or more to reach Phuket. From Chumporn to Ranong the road was in a poor condition but that didn't stop the driver from putting his foot down. There were long stretches with no streetlights. I imagine the road is much better now. Would I do it again? No. Phuket to Hua Hin was quicker and uneventful with plenty of scheduled and unscheduled stops, plenty of movies too.

train or taxi to airport from Hua Hin. Fly to Phuket.
the rest is far too dangerous. the bus drivers have no idea how to drive.
good luck.

I caught the bus December last year from the bus station near Soi 96.Went down to Phuket for the New Year.
Booked the VIP bus and booked 2 seats in the dozen or so seats downstairs, was over night 2200pm till 0600am.
Left on time and arrived a little early. Was a ok journey. Will do it this year again.
Make sure your tired for the journey and get you head down in the recliners.

I'm looking into making a visit down to Phuket on my next HuaHin trip, the VIP bus interests me as you can travel while sleeping, saving in on a hotel night!
Since I'm flexible in my long stay, in order to avoid the delay due to traffic, I'm guessing a departure on monday-thursday is optimal, to avoid that weekend traffic around Bangkok.
Where can one find tickets to the VIP bus? Never traveled by bus before.
Can they be purchased a day in advance or is it same day only?
