I wish to visit Ventiane in Laos. These are my questions:
1) Is there a direct flight from Bangkok to Ventiane, or will I have to fly to Udon Thani and from there by bus?
2) I might drive there by my own car (registered in my Thai wife´s name). Are there special requirements or problems driving the car into Laos?
3) I have a Thai retirement visa. Would I need a visa for Laos (only a few days), and is it available at the border or at the airport in Ventiane? What is the cost?
4) If I cross the border by car, what is the fastest way to cross (hate waiting in line, will pay for expeditious handling)?
I hope one or more of you have dunnit and can provide some guidance. Thanks in advance.

Re: Trip to Vientiane, Laos
Looking to do a border run myself to Vientiane mid December, there are flights direct from Bkk to Vientiane (Bangkok Airways/Thai Airways), you will need to get a visa on arrival which i believe costs $30 USD. Sorry i couldnt answer all of your questions:)

^ Yep, I think the US$30 for a visa on arrival is correct, but you'll also need to take a passport sized photo with you and fill out the necessary application form (available online) - at least that was what was required when I visited in 2013.
Very interesting place and well worth the visit - although I only spent 2 days there as I was working elsewhere in Laos.
