Driving on Koh Chang

Post by ricardo »

I'm planning a holiday with the family to Koh Chang after Songkran.

I intend to drive there in a Honda Civic from Hua Hin.

Can anyone tell me what the state of the roads are like on the island and is a Civic suitable for getting around.

I have found references to 3 ferry terminals on the mainland - which one of them allows you to take your car over.

Cheers

I was over there last year at around the same time, went with family in a beatup old pickup. The ferry port for vehicles comes in at a place called Ao Sapparot to the north of the island. We stuck to the main coastal roads and were fine. I would imagine you'd need a 4x4 if you ventured anywhere inland, especially when rainy season starts.

Cheers Buksi - 2nd time your knowledge has sorted me out for road trips.

I couldn't find the car ferry port on line as all the websites wanted me to book a pick up bus.

I will be watching for feedback on your trip, if you have the time, as Koh Chang is on my list ! It looks a lot less "developed" (ie commercialised) than Samui and that's what attracts me ! Safe travels.
