Fish pond with snail infestation

Post by cookie102 »

I have a small fish pond in the garden and am having problems with water snail infestation.
There are literally hundreds of small snails that seem to eat anything that is green.
I put in some new Water Lillies and within hours the snails were having a magnificent feast on them.
I really do not want to empty the pond, or kill the fish.

Any suggestions on how to get over this problem would be gratefully received.

Toads eat snails so maybe collect some.

In California we had a lot of snails. I took my cigar tobacco and mixed with water. Let it sit a couple days and sprayed with the tobacco water. The snails decided to go elsewhere! Non toxic to animals too and natural!

Don't know if it helps, but good luck!
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

We never had snails in ours, but after reading Migrant's post I know why. We always had a toad infestation. There were always frogs and toads swimming around in ours and at certain times the water was literally cloudy with tadpoles, which the fish loved to eat.

Moral; get yourself some toads...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Thanks for your replies, It is true we did have many frogs at one time but no snails, for some reason the frogs deserted us.
Have also heard about a certain fish that you can buy that eats snails but not been able to find the Thai name.
