As far as I am aware only 3 airlines fly UK return Thai, BA and EVA, who use BKK as their stop-off en-route to Heathrow.

In my experience EVA always has the lowest cost. Of course it's cheaper with a stop en-route but I would always chose to fly direct. I spend a lot of my woking life flying and for me the choice is always comfort and speed of arrival.

I recently flew from Luxembourg to Bangkok with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and it was surprisingly good considering it cost just under 400 pounds return.

Been looking at end of July and August flights from Los Angeles and it is an amazing $620 on China Air, and a little more on other carriers

My son has to go back to the UK in July for about a month. Looking for suggestions e.g. search online/local travel agent?

If local travel agent, which would you recommend (2 always seem to come up in discussion - 1 good, 1 not so good, but never remember which is which).

If online, which sites? I've tried a few, but all expensive  .

Book now/wait a couple of months?

Transaero have gone bust. They cease trading mid December.

Out of interest, thought I'd have a look at some of the UK sites I'd been recommended - although from previous experience booking outside the country of departure tended to be more expensive.

Anyway based being under 26 years of age (not heard of that one before..): -

EVA certainly worth looking at, as are Qatar. Good luck...

Surely an online search should be your first choice and then armed with costs, you can check out a couple of local travel agents to see what they come up with?

Thanks pharvey, that under 26 option looks as though it might save him a few quid (£487 return sounds well within his budget).

Yes DB, those were my thoughts - just need confirmation of the better Travel Agent now. If he can't get close to £487, then I'll do it on line.

Regarding Eva and Qatar, I have checked them earlier, and they are coming in at stupid money. Funny actually, I've had loads of friends get great deals with Eva, but they've never had a competitive price when I've been trying to book.

BB, you could try skyscanner which is a Windows app I have on my laptop...

(It includes a calendar option which displays the cheapest flight for each day)

I've always used Western Tours which is just down from Burger King on the same side of the road.
They've always found me what I've felt to be good deals.

Checked out direct flights to UK last month and ended up getting a return leaving early December and returning early Jan for just under thirty thousand baht. By using the EVA site instead of the many search engines it is also flexible and cancellable rather than losing the lot if you cannot get the flight. Useful as one ticket is dependent on getting a visa.

A new player it seems, but unfortunately no listing of fares. Pete

Just tried it on my son's forthcoming journey to compare prices. Cost is about the same, but outbound he'd be dumped in that Northern wilderness of Manchester, and would have to depart on the inbound journey from Stanstead - not for us I'm afraid.

Some great prices on Qatar Airways just now. Never flown them but heard they are great. They say they have the best business class in the world.
Just flown British Airways premium economy. Extra 400 pounds but not really worth it. Actually prefer flying via the middle east and breaking the trip into 2 sections and quite enjoy stopping for a night on the way.
