Cheaper to book flights from UK or BKK?

Post by gazbif »

My GF and son are flying over to the UK from Bangkok . Would it be cheaper for me to book the flights or for them to do it from Thailand?

Normally the cheapest flights are purchased from the country of departure.

I found that round trip flights originating there are cheaper bought in the U.S. than the exact flights in reverse originating and bought here. So I would presume the prices would be cheaper if the tickets are bought in the U.K.

I'm not sure that it will make any difference - these days you tend to use either the airline website, or one of the companies such as Trailblazer, Expedia etc to book flights, so whether you book them in Thailand or the UK, the price should be the same - the big difference is normally whether you fly LHR-BKK return, or BKK-LHR return.

Cheaper to book in the UK if your destination is UK as already mentioned. If you are flying out of Thailand then more expensive usually and booking from the UK makes no difference imho.

I know it's not from uk but think it's the same way thing works.

I search Thai airways on Momendo :

Bangkok 01-12-2014 to Copenhagen and return to Bangkok 15-01-2015: 8438 kr. = 48096 baht

Copenhagen -Bangkok and return to Copenhagen on the same date : 5735 kr. = 32690 baht

difference : 2703 kr. = 15407 baht

I know it can vary between season and company, but I always notice tht a return is cheaper from Denmark, than from Bangkok.

But the OP was asking whether it is cheaper to buy the ticket in the UK or Thailand - the travel is from BKK to UK return, not UK to BKK.

Ok maybe I read the questions wrong, but I don't think there's any difference if you buy it in Thailand or Uk.

Can you not just go on line and then look up various quotes ?

If you buy online (with the appropriate research) then it doesn't make any difference. If you buy using an agent, I'd assume most Thai agents take a more modest cut than the average UK agent. However, there's usually no reason to go through an agent.

Tip - if you don't mind a slightly longer flight look into direct flights into other EU hub airports, some offer very good BKK deals, and from there you can hop on a short low cost flight to the UK. We sometimes save close to 50% that way.

don't forget that some airlines insist that the credit card holder that purchased the tickets travels with the
tickets, and they do ask!.check if you are not traveling with then.
