Maybe we should consider a short stop over as my daughter will be 3 years old just to break it up a bit.

If you get good stop overs (2 hours or less), the savings will pay for quite a few nights out.

It's true that you can sometimes save a considerable amount of money with Middle Eastern stop-overs and I've done many of them myself but be aware that if you have a young child with you, they often involve a couple of sweaty bus rides to and from the terminal, a long queue for security and minimal facilities open if it's in the early hours of the morning. (You do come across the odd treat though, like seeing the Arabs in dish-dashes drinking Guiness in the Irish bar in Muscat airport!)

Etihad are one of the best ME airlines and Abu Dhabi airport is pretty good, although you won't have too long to wait judging by your total flight time. Their entertainment system is one of the best and the food is reasonable.

If it's not too late, I've just been speaking to a friend who is coming out at about the same time as the OP. He reckons both Sky Scanner and Flight Centre are offering Eva at £545 return.

I will have a look at that later.
I am trying to sale the Etihad route to my wife as traveling time is no different from going direct and then jumping in a taxi to Hua Hin it just means a night in Bangers.

Is the flight that leaves LHR at about 9.30 am available - if it is, it gets you into BKK at just gone 7am next morning?
