Don Mueang Airport to pass 27 million passengers in 3 years

Don Mueang Airport, Bangkok’s budget airline facility, will boost its capability to take 27.5 million passengers annually in 2016, an airport executive said today.

Don Mueang Airport director Paranee Wattanotai said Terminal II is being developed to cope with expanded service capacity given its clear-cut role as an aviation facility for low-cost airlines.

Combined with Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand will serve as a gateway for 87.5 million passengers a year in 2016, she said.

She said the relocation of AirAsia to Don Mueang Airport has significantly boosted the aviation traffic to 54,694 flights in the first five months of the 2013 fiscal year (Oct 2012-Feb 2013) – 15,283 international and 39,411 domestic.

By the end of this year, Don Mueang should have 153,000 flights and 16.9 million passengers, she added.

Friday marks the 99th anniversary of Don Mueang Airport.

Mrs.T and the boys flew to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) this morning on a school trip.

Flew on Air Asia from Don Mueang at 07.45.

I dropped them off and then parked up. After I sent them off, I spent a little time looking at the old place. Hard to believe it used to be the main airport.

It does look tired and old these days.

Don't know what it was like airside of course..........

Hey Terry,
I flew through there in May, yes a little bit shabby looking.
But airside, I would say their restaurants are as good, if not better than Swampy.
And flight wise, pretty well organised, fast check-in, no delays.

Mrs D-M is planning to fly to Udon from Don Mueang on Sunday.

Is there any further info on transport to the airport, particularly in light of the troubles?

I came up to Don Meuang for a flight to Ubon on Thursday. Experienced no issues whatsoever. We left a little earlier, to be on the safe side.

I use a private taxi service. Door to door 1800, 2 people with luggage. Can PM you the number, but there's quite a few of them around.

Its strange, both theMRT&BTS go part of the way out stopping atJJ MKT, it would make a lot off sense to extend one or other out to DM. But it is not planned
