Another flight search here Barry. http://travel.kelkoo.co.uk/c-172201-flights.html

I usually book direct but it's worth having a look on there then checking the airlines direct site.

I agree with what people have said, there's little difference in the middle eastern airlines, I was an Emirates regular but since they screwed up the frequent flier system I have moved on to Qatar, I fly with them again in 4 weeks.

I would recommend either.

Lufthansa were one of the cheaper ones when I looked a few weeks ago, they might be worth a look but I went with Qatar to keep up my frequent flier miles.

Ive flown to Thailand from London 9 times over the past years. Every time I've checked prices at lastminute.co.uk, along with a couple of other price comparison websites, got a quote from a couple of airlines direct, and visited a couple of travel agents in the high street. I've booked every single ticket through last minute as they're always been either the cheapest, or joint cheapest.

I'm sure you mean well, but there is usually a huge difference between the journey starting in Thailand as opposed to starting in the UK. Many UK agents will not be interested in the journey if the first leg starts in Thailand - I've been advised several times by UK Travel Agents that such a journey is best booked through a Thai Travel Agent.

I have tried a few travel agencies in Thailand and have never found one that gets the best deal as they never deal with all airlines.
Internet searches only take a few minutes and you dont pay the agents commission

Etihad Airways

We’re proud of our consistently high standards, and never stop aiming higher. Which is why we’re delighted to announce the recent accolades we have received from the travel industry at the 2011 World Travel Awards Middle East:

- Middle East’s Leading Airline
- Middle East’s Leading Airline First Class
- Middle East’s Leading Airline Inflight Entertainment
- Middle East’s Leading Cabin Staff
It’s something that you can take pride in too. Because you’re the reason that we keep striving to provide the best flying experience possible.

They offer the same entertainment system in Economy as well as a 10inch scren in every seat, so if the price is right then worth booking with them - the connection times in Abu Dhabi are also good.

I flew EVA Airways last time. They were really good, (food not so good) but the seats were bigger, more leg room. Cheap too. They were also really good with the luggage, did not charge for the over weight. I booked through the ASDA travel site.

Emirates are usually very full from BKK to DXB. So full they are unpleasant.

Thank you very much to everyone for your great tips.

As things turned out, I didn't have to make the trip in the end (thank goodness), but the very valuable information provided here will certainly be helpful in the future.

Incidentally, the cheapest flight would have been with Egypt Air at 28k baht!

Many thanks to you all once again

Certainly some mixed reviews for Egyptair. One point that does seem to be repeated though is that the flight from Bangkok to Cairo is on a rather ancient aircraft, little legroom, poor reviews. The onward flight to London for example however seems to be comfortable, good value for money and on a far more modern aircraft......

Toonmad wrote:I travelled with Air Asia to Stansted last June and was not impressed at all. Apart from missing the connecting flight in KL and having to spend an extra 36 hours there, the seating was cramped and there were no entertainment facilities on board. On top of that, the connecting flight I had booked to Newcastle was also cancelled, so all in all a trip to forget. I have travelled with Emirates, Qatar and Singapore and can recommend all three.
Should not have a problem with connection of flights with AA now as on BKK to UK your bags are booked straight through and you only have to transit not check out, customs and check in again like you used to. They are doing this on a lot of the flights now and long as the whole one way trip is booked on one ticket and not booked sector by sector.
