flight to london

Post by barrys »

I know this has been dealt with before, but I can imagine that things might have changed since.

I haven't been to Europe for about 11 years now, but I probably have to go to London for a couple of days next week - any idea when I can get the cheapest possible flight?

Thanks a lot.

Not sure of major airlines but might pay to try air asia. They now have on BKK to Stansted route a system where they book your bags straight through from BKK to London as long as the trip is all booked on one ticket for the each way trips.
I have just booked Perth back to London using the same system. It allows you if there is only a 90 min plus connection to be able to make it as you only transit and not have to collect luggage and check in again.

Use this as a good guide for tickets, rather than the normal site to start with as it give you a listing of 15 days one way flights at a time, so if need to be you can take advantage of some of the cheaper fares.
http://www.airasiaplus.com
Once you have decided on what you want to book, go to the main site and do it all from there. If you have never flown them before, take the time to make a profile for yourself before you do the booking as they have a 10 minute cut off for each booking. The profile gives you password access to the site and retains all your info for future bookings.

You still have to pay for seat, luggage & food when you book and with seat and baggage is best to do when you book as it is much dearer to do at the airport. I normally book upto 20kgs and is normally more than enough.

Hope that helps.

Hi Chelsea

Thanks a lot for that - just checked it out and a return flight turns out at 46k - I was hoping for something a good bit cheaper than that

When you add on all the extras not highlighted Airasia are usually more expensive plus they only fly to stanstead. I always find Qatar Air come out about the cheapest, fly to UK major airports. Plus if you join their 'priveledge club' (free to join) you get an extra 10k baggage allowance.
Do a search for flight comparison websites to get a bit cheaper. I have a flight booked for June which was 42000 on their website but got the same flight etc using TravelPapa.com for 35000

Thanks a lot for that littlebird:

Just checked TravelPapa and the cheapest is with Aeroflot via Moscow on an Airbus A330-300 at US$ 995 return (total price)

Nest cheapest is Etihad via Abudhabi on an Airbus A340-600 at US$ 1138 with the overall journey time about the same.

Any other preferences??

That's OK Barry just a shame you have to book so near the time you have to travel.

My trip from Aus (Perth to Stansted) for Sept I booked in January and all up with seating and baggage etc ended up costing me just over $1000.00 AUD.
For available flights with other airlines at the time I could get nowhere near that price.

Stansted is not a problem for me either, I can get to where I will be going without any problems, there is a train up into the City that runs regular.
I am going to Phuket for 5 days on the way back and due to the fact that Air Asia have added a late afternoon flight to HKT, I will now have only about 2-2.5hrs layover in Kuala Lumpar (instead of 8hrs).

Personally I think I would give a miss to the Aeroflot suggestion.

From memory Qatar Air has been receiving good press for their flights over to Thailand.
I know they are doing flights to KL and then on to Phuket, but not sure about BKK. May pay to check prices from KL to UK and see if you can get a cheap flight AA from BKK to KL, may work a bit cheaper.

I thnk the BKK to KL to UK option usually works out more expensive when everything is added up plus the hassle of an extra leg to your fight.
I always do the trip with a few hours stopover so at least I can stretch my legs.
One thing that amazed me recently when booking my next trip was a difference of £225 between booking sites - same flight etc. Someone is making a whacking profit there !
I always fly to Manchester as 1. its nearer my place in Uk and 2. Heathrow is the most filthy disorganised airport I have come across

I have flown on Etihad, Emirates and Qatar Airways and to be honest there is very little to choose between them - they all use modern aircraft with good entertainment facilities. Food tends to be food on any flight and way down on my priorities, so my recommendation would be to use whichever of these three airlines is offering the best deal at the date you want to fly, with the best connections that suit your timing and you wont go far wrong.

Hi Barry, I've been at flights, I use http://www.travexnet.com they are based in Bangkok, I have used them on many occasions and they always give me a good deal, in fact last year I booked with them and the day I paid the money into the bank the airline put it's prices down. I just emailed and said that is was a shame I had'nt waited and they actually put the money back into my account and let me take advantage of the offer. Another one I use is http://www.moxtravel.com.
Hope that helps

I travelled with Air Asia to Stansted last June and was not impressed at all. Apart from missing the connecting flight in KL and having to spend an extra 36 hours there, the seating was cramped and there were no entertainment facilities on board. On top of that, the connecting flight I had booked to Newcastle was also cancelled, so all in all a trip to forget. I have travelled with Emirates, Qatar and Singapore and can recommend all three.
