booking flights with saveflights dot com

Post by komfortablynumb »

Hi knowlagable people.
Trying to book flights for my step daughters for a months visit in October from Los to UK.
I need a direct flight as my girls aren't too world weary.
This is a delayed visit, as getting there passports and visas took far longer than i thought.
Stupid me.
I tried to book with Eva air direct. (love there flights.)
They wouldn't play as the credit card holder has to be on the flight, and produce the card at the airport.
There best price was 58.340tb for 2 tickets.
I phoned the London office and a charming lady confirmed this was true.
She adviced it would be cheaper to book from an agent in Thailand.
Now there is honesty you don't hear every day.
Googled flights and after all the rubbish. http://www.saveflights.com/ came up.
There quote was THB 57,000.
Bonus.
They wanted me to pay into there Thai account.
So i requested a quote for credit card payment.
Bless Kung Tom replied that will be a 3% charge.
Now the cost will be THB 58,710.
The advantge of paying by credit card is if it goes pear shaped you can get your money back.
However it seems to me that the 3% is just insurance.
And i hate insurance.
They rely on small print to shaft you.
So the question is.
Anyone dealt with this company?
She who must be obeyed assures me that she had told me of this.
And our friend in LOS can get a better deal.
Probaly true.
I was probaly listening through a Singha beer haze at the time.
Anyone got suggestions for a good cheap reliable bucket shop in LOS?
i apologise if this topic has been done to death.
Jon.

just checked mid oct flight (thai airways) on dealchecker & it's about the same price £500/ 28,000bht each. (on the southall travel option)
not sure about credit card fees but most utilities & companies in the uk charge for c/card payments nowadays :( :cuss:

http://www.dealchecker.co.uk/

just checked again & a week earlier on the southall website , eva air is only £420

Thai Airways have flights for 56,600 baht BKK - LHR in October for return in November. These are internet fares but you can usually get even cheaper fares with them at any of their own offices except those situated at an airport.

TG do not charge extra for payment by credit card.

And Quantas have for the same period a super saver fare for only 36,000 baht return, but the ticket must be collected at their Bangkok office within two days after it has been bokked.

I've booked with Save Flights on more than one occasion and they have been excellent.

They're a sponsor of a UK based Thai related forum, presumably for the business of that first flight...

Quite normal for smaller companies in Asia to charge 3% for credit card.
Asia is largely a cash economy, most people don't use credit cards and the company has to pay it. They don't have enough volume on credit cards to absorb the charge and they are offering you a convenience.
Just FYI, even in a much more technologically with-it nation like Korea people pay $1 million or more in cash to purchase an apartment.
