I'm due to fly out 13th to UK
Anyone in similar position or in next few days and what is the general concensus - cancel / try for Malaysia / turn up at airport in hope of flying out eventually from military base.
Cannot get through to airline office (Qatar) unsurprisingly

Not sure about getting out - I'm still trying to organise getting in!!!! :cuss:

I have alternative route in and out if the situation doesn't improve- Phuket to Singapore; you may want to check if you can get out this way too

BTW anybody have any clue about how long it takes to drive from Phuket to HH (and what do the taxi's charge for that trip)?

I flew into Thailand on Saturday (early hours of the morning).

My usual flight from Singapore was obviously cancelled due to the closure of Suvarnabhumi.

On both Thursday and Friday nights last week (and I assume still continuing), Thai Airways have laid on a Charter Flight from Singapore to U-Tapao, TG8549. Its scheduled to leave at 11:15pm, but on both days was very late (froday nigh Flight left at 4:15am Saturday).

Thai Airways were wonderful in Singapore. It seems that they are not promoting hte flight, it is only for Residents, and you have to visit the Thai Office in the Airport. Payment by cash only.

When the plane arrived at Singapore, beofre taknig mer back to Thailand, it was full of travellers exiting Thailand. Not sure how to book this flight from Thiaadn, but worth investigating.

Bangkok Airways have now added additiional flights from Singapore - Samui - Hua Hin. Wish this was running last Friday!!!!!!

flying out

Turok, it's 660 to 675 km depending where you live in HH to Phuket and by car it takes you about 7 1/2 to 8 hours. Over Ranong you have to add another 50 km.

Sorry, but the taxi charges I could not provide you.....

Niggle, have you tried any of these numbers:

Passengers with confirmed bookings for flights out of Bangkok, should contact Qatar Airways reservations office to re-book, re-route or to claim a refund on either of the following numbers:
+ 66 2 259 2701
+ 66 2 259 2705
+ 66 2 259 3560
+ 66 2 259 3563

Qatar Airways Bangkok City ticketing and reservations is open. However, due to the current situation, Qatar Airways’ Bangkok Airport ticketing and reservations office remains closed until further notice.

Why not get the gov't VIP bus from Phuket bus station? About 1100 THB, takes 10 hours. A 24/30 seater is good. Seats recline enough so you can sleep. Stops at the clock tower. Offloads you for a meal half way. The first time I booked with Western Travel in HH they added around 400 THB. I think it was the same bus.

http://www.phuket.net/visit-phuket/about/by-bus.htm also http://www.transport.co.th/main.asp

May not be relevant but you save an o/nt accommodation charge.

Had to give a presentation in Doha last Thursday a.m.

So - had to drive to Phuket on Tuesday, stay overnight, fly to Singapore Wednesday evening on Silk Air, and then get the 02.20 Singapore / Doha flight on Qatar Airways arriving 05.30 Thursday morning.

Got to the hotel had the s,s & s routine and was all smiles in front of the client at 11.00 a.m.!

The things you do to earn a crust!!!!!!!

At least I will be returning direct to Swampypoom 8)

If you have to travel Phuket-HH/BKK,which many may have to right now still .Why not hire a car from Avis/Hertz/Budget ? You can drop it off at the other end .Works out very much cheaper than a taxi even with fuel and driver if you make the journey in a 24 hour period .Taxis from here to Phuket are about 6-8k for a decent car and driver.

Hope this helps
