To the die-hard chili fanatics casually chomping down on habaneros and drizzling Carolina Reaper sauce on your tacos, you have a new fiery monarch to bow down to. Except this time, we really wouldn't recommend you try to eat it.

According to the Daily Post, the Dragon's Breath chili, now the world's spiciest pepper, clocks in at a hellish 2.48 million on the Scoville scale, dwarfing its nearest competitor, the Carolina Reaper, which comes in at 2.2 million. (For reference, military-grade pepper spray comes in at a casual 2 million.) The devilish pepper, cultivated by grower Mike Smith in conjunction with Nottingham University, is 22 times as hot as the now-innocent-seeming habanero, and nearly 300 times spicier than the everyday jalapeño.

The Dragon's Breath actually hasn't been consumed by a human yet, out of fear that the lethal amount of capsaicin could singe one's airways, causing them to close up and cause anaphylactic shock. So, yes, ingesting one of these tiny rosebuds can actually kill you, though the pepper wasn't created to be consumed in the first place (no matter how many dumb ideas are swirling in your head right now). According to Smith, the Dragon's Breath was developed to treat people who are allergic to anesthetics, as the pepper is literally so hot it can be used to numb the skin.

^ Crazy cr@p! 2.48 million!!

At the end of the day, the "Scotch Bonnet" is rated at around 450,000 at best.... and is painfully hot. It is actually recommended that you add "full to food for flavour and remove before serving".

Thai Chillies I believe are around 100,000 on the Scoville Scale, and I love them.

How the hell could you even get close to this????!!!

World's hottest chilli pepper gives man 'thunderclap' headaches
Doctors issued a chilli warning Tuesday after an American man who ate the world's hottest pepper was struck by excruciating "thunderclap" headaches.

The 34-year-old man's symptoms began with dry heaves "immediately after participation in a hot pepper contest where he ate one Carolina Reaper," in 2016, said an article published in medical journal BMJ Case Reports. The man then developed intense neck and head pain, and for several days experienced brief but intense "thunderclap" headaches. Each lasted several seconds. After seeking emergency care, tests for various neurological conditions came back negative.

In the end, doctors diagnosed him with a temporary brain condition called "reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome" (RCVS), characterised by the temporary narrowing of blood vessels to the brain. It was the first reported case of a patient being diagnosed with RCVS after eating a chilli pepper, the authors said.
