We watch Thai news every day. They never have any Engineering and Science related things.
Just Entertainment, Fashion, Farming, etc.
How do kids get inspired to achieve if there are no role models?
Engineering and Science
Re: Engineering and Science
I think previously King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the most prominent role model for young people with respect to science, engineering and innovation. He held a number of international patents/registered designs and was instrumental in providing leadership and direction for quite a few major infrastructure projects in the country.

Re: Engineering and Science
You are of course correct and there is little innovation in Thailandgenerally. I personally don't see this as a deal breaker because many countries including Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore have seized others ideas and have developed a means to improve, reduce costs and market these technologies. Thailand fails in most cases to follow this proven route.

Re: Engineering and Science
I agree completely with your perceptions and comments which are well supported by UN findings. If you compare the overall investment in science, technology and innovation Thailand is a distant last compared to its neighbours. The recent UN Conference on Trade and Development(UNCTAD) Science, Technology & Innovation Policy Review for Thailand highlights the issues mentioned along with the consequences for the country by failing to act. Multinational companies, for example Bayer continue to support the country in the areas such as health science along with miscellaneous Aid Programs run by foreign Governments. Thailand is well positioned to move forward to provide motivation and create opportunities for young aspirants, but when will it happen?Bristolian wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2017 10:10 pmYou are of course correct and there is little innovation in Thailandgenerally. "This is the first footage of Larry Page’s ‘flying car’
Kitty Hawk is the “flying car” company that’s financially backed by Google founder Larry Page, and today it has published the first video of its prototype aircraft. The company describes the Kitty Hawk Flyer as an “all-electric aircraft” that is designed to operate over water and doesn’t require a pilot’s license to fly. Kitty Hawk promises people will be able to learn to fly the Flyer “in minutes.” A consumer version will be available by the end of this year, the company says. ..."

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Engineering and Science
Why do people insist on using the term "flying car"? Are cars not defined by the fact that they have 4-wheels? Are they not also notoriously famous for being land-locked vehicles??? An aircraft that is "designed to operate over water" doesn't sound anything like a car.hhfarang wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2017 7:56 pm "This is the first footage of Larry Page’s ‘flying car’

Looks cool, though.
