Hello,
I noticed these bastards during our first weeks in Thailand, and they're right now active again!
They are definitely not mosquitoes!
They are silent attackers (no typical mosquito sound) and active day & night.
They are minute, and when stationary you can recognise their delta-shape 'vulcan bomber'
outline.
Does anyone know what species they are?
Kind regards,
MB aka "Mike the Fritz'

I'm not sure which one you're talking about. But the majority of insects here seem to think I'm meat on a stick.

I was going to say drain flies. Didn't realise they are bloodsuckers though. Thanks Felipesed1.

Horrible little things. Bring you up with a hard lump after the bite. Does not itch though. Never seen them before in 20 years here. Or at least not noticed them before. The geckos seem to like them.

^^ You'll see them hanging out in your bathrooms from time to time. Sitting in the toilet bowl or a basin. They always seem to be around moisture. Pete

Re: Non-mosquito stinging species
Good afternoon everyone!
I did notice they prefer the bathroom environment!
The bites/stings here around Soi 94 DO ITCH LIKE MAD!
As I said, they're silent and carry out their hit and run attacks with the speed
of the mosquito fighter-bombers!
Anyway thanks for your posts!
Have a nice one!

Definitely! Never got to see one that close, of course.Felipesed1 wrote:Check out this site for the description of these "delta winged" flies:

From a distance they present a delta-shaped outline.
So they have been identified as moth or drain flies!
Thanks!
