Very Colourful Bird (feathered variety)

Post by Big Boy »

During a recent short stay in Chumphon, my hotel room overlooked a free range chicken farm (complete with cock a doodle doos from 2am). Whenever sat on the balcony, or looking out of the window, there was probably the most colourful bird I've ever seen in the wild here in Thailand, going from tree to tree. However, it was very camera shy. Whenever i tried to get a photo, it just flew away.

It had an orange head, yellow body and green tail - all very bright. Dare I say it, but it was parrot sized

I've been looking on Google Images, and the nearest thing to it is a sun parakeet, but it's not quite the same, and I don't believe a sun parakeet should be flying around wild in Thailand.
Sun Parakeet - not quite what I saw.

Does anybody know what it might have been please?

If you think I was seeing things, my travelling companion also saw it, but had the same problem as me when trying to take a photo.

BB - That IS a Sun Parakeet

They are an endangered species, but are often kept as cage birds here in LOS - illegaly.

One flew into our restaurant several years ago - obviously very used to humans and quite bedragled.

After a lot of inquries around here we finally kept it and I built an aviary for it.

We had it for 4 or so years, but somehow a bloody snake got into the aviary and had it for breakfast one day..........

Yes, that certainly looks very similar. Maybe it had escaped, and has found a good food source near the chickens.
