I live in HH and am considering taking up golf but not willing to pay 3000b+ per round since I hope to play at least once a week. I've decided I can get a better set of "starter" clubs in the States so don't plan on starting until after my next visit there in June.
I've visited the military base course in Pranburi and the price is fair at 1100b (including caddie) for guests or 500b and annual membership fee of 8000b. However, the course appeared to be very dry so I'm looking for other suggestions. Another discussion mentioned a discount at Royal HH after 3pm but I'm not sure that's the best option either.
Thanks.

RHH is not in great condition either.
Palm Hills at 3.00pm good value (1200 baht) as well as a few other options come out after the high season ends.

Re: Golfing in HH on a budget
bite the bullet and buy a resellable life membership at a golf club, play once a week and it costs you less than 250bht( yearly maintenance fee divided by games) sell the membership for what you paid for it or more..the cheapest way to play golf at quality courses.
Re: Golfing in HH on a budget
LaakeView may be the best value for you with cost of about 95,00BHt for about next 11 years and the benefit of 2 courses - annual maintenance about 12,000BHT

Get to know some members and play for guest rates.

Join one of the local golf societies. Bernie's Inn on the walking alley off the beach road (near the late night karoke bars) is the place to sign up for the oldest one in Hua Hin. They play on Tuesdays and Fridays and get good deals on all the area courses plus they go further afield with bus trips a few times a year... mostly really good people.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Golfing in HH on a budget
I'll stop by Bernie's someday and ask about details (membership fee, etc.). I also noticed on Banyan's website that they have an offseason after 3pm rate of 1100b. During high season (Nov - Apr) it's 1700b. Both prices do not include caddie fee. Two years ago, when I first visited HH a Thai real estate agent mentioned a reasonable membership fee at Springfield but I don't remember the amount and she may have received some special rate.
Thank you for the replies.

Re: Golfing in HH on a budget
HHGS have a joining members fee of !0,000 baht and annual fee of 750baht and a maximum men's handicap of 28. I mention this because the OP stated he was just starting golf so probably has no handicap.hhfarang wrote:Join one of the local golf societies. And if they don't include that fee then you should expect to add 300 for the caddie fee AND probably another 300 for the caddie tip.JimmyD wrote: Both prices do not include caddie fee.
Are you going to walk all eighteen every round? More money if you are not.
The various golf societies might get you some reduced fee as opposed to full fee but it's still not going to be cheap IMO.
Re: Golfing in HH on a budget
Ok... this may be a stupid question but how many rounds am I expected to play to establish a handicap? I'm a bit surprised that 300b caddie tip is the norm. I would have guessed maybe 100b.
I do expect to walk the course and understand that a cart would add a fair amount to the cost. Also, it sounds like joining one of the golf societies may not be worth the initial membership cost. Though it would give me a chance to meet others and I still need to stop by Bernie's to discuss details anyway.
Thank you for the additional info.
