Painter V2,

What was the condition of the course at Dhanarat?

Hi hhfarang,
I,ve only been playing for the past 2 months and am no expert, the course to me seemed fine, from memory I think about 3 / 4 greens were covered in sand, and another 2 or 3 partial sand. The rough which I spent most of the day in was ok. I played Palm Hills on Monday as a walk on and paid 1050 obviously much prettier but the greens drove me mental.
Dhanarat seemed to be in slightly better condition that when I was out in March, and yesterday there was players on all the holes.

Same for me after 48 years. You're either Tiger Woods or you're not. If you're not, you struggle at the game all your life and you just have to learn to enjoy it no matter what your score!

Black Mountain offer 1k5

n 2009, Black Mountain received awards that recognized the course as the Best Championship Golf Course in Thailand. Many golf courses would consider that to be enough, but at Black Mountain this is just the beginning.

As part of the ongoing efforts to improve and provide customers with an even better experience, it has been decided to improve two of the existing holes on the course. In the coming months, hole number 2 and hole number 12 will be reconstructed with the result being two of the most spectacular holes in Asia.

During construction, both holes will still be playable, however, will be different from current layouts with a temporary green on the 2nd and temporary tee on the 12th made available.

The owner and management have listened to extensive feedback from tour professionals, as well as members and guests, and while they recognize an inconvenience to golfers during this period, the final outcome will be well worth the effort.

Black Mountain General Manager, Mr. Harald Elisson commented, “here at Black Mountain, we are constantly trying to improve everything we do. These improvements on the course have had thorough consideration from all those involved and we are very confident that these two holes will be much appreciated by everyone that plays them.”

Due to this inconvenience, Black Mountain is offering a reduced green fee rate of 50% from 1 May, 2010 until 31 October, 2010. This rate of 1,500 baht per round will provide golfers with the best value for money in the region.

Any idea why BM never takes part in the Golf Fest? I know they've discounted to 1,500 but when you add in the extras its still almost double what the other courses in Hua Hin are charging for the festival occasion.

Treated myself and played BM yesterday. Lots of building work going on so in a bit of a state in parts.

Green Fee - 1500 baht
Caddie Fee - 300 baht
Buggy Fee - 600 baht (Only 1 player allowed). I walked (Needed the exercise)
Caddie Tip Extra

Well it was bloody hot yesterday and I played shite as usual, got 3 pars and came away with a score of 114. Not knowing the course didn't help as water was not where my caddie said it was or more likely I did not quite understand her. Roll on the festival so I can start getting consistant 110 :-)

The other thing that I don't think the Black Mountain people realize is that their landscape is very new, meaning, if you walk there is never any shade, plus there is only one place on the course (out of the normal walking path) that I know of to buy some water or something else to drink.

I would much rather play a course like Springfield that has mature trees and even if you decide to walk you can wait in the shade between shots instead of in the freakin' desert... and Springfield as well as most other courses in the area have a watering hole every half nine unlike Black Mountain! I played it once and will never return until they get with the program.

Yes, the festival is still running as per the OP.
I've only been out at Kaeng Krachan and Palm Hills. Both were in excellent condition. I was very impressed with Palm Hills as there had been a number of improvements since I last played it years ago.
